So over the weekend I drove from Vancouver to Seattle area. The trip there was okay. Nothing happened to the car. On the way back, everything went smooth and sound. I used cruise control having it switched on and off in between. By the time i got back and tried to put the car in P, for some reason, there's a loud click noise from the shifter. I listened carefully to it, tried to shift the car back and forward and the click only happens to sound in P. I know there's a little bump sticks out on the bottom of the shifter and when it goes into P, the bump comes out of the plastic cover, creating the noise. Usually it's not that loud but it was 10X the click noise that day. The next day it was okay. I wonder if it was the heat that cause that? I drive a CVT SL 1.8 early production. TRIP TOTAL KM =340KM.

I get click noise when im in park also, but only when I press the brakes the click comes and then I just change my gear, someone here told me its okay, because something starts engaging. no clue lol, only noitced after i drove from Ny to NJ around 300 miles.

That "someone" was correct. When you press your brakes in ANY automatic-transmission car, you'll hear a RELAY "click" that allows you to shift the car into drive. Try shifting your car into drive without pressing the brake pedal...it doesn't work. It's a safety feature to ensure that you meant to place your car in drive.

So yes, that click has been happening since you drove the car off the lot and you just didn't notice it till later. Just get in some other automatic cars and start them and then press the brake. You'll hear the same relay switch.

As for evil's issue, I've got nothing, that's weird.

i understand about the brake 'click'. It's absolutely normal. Maybe next time try to pay close attention to the shifter knob when putting it in PARK with the stereo off. You'll notice there's a bump clicks out of the plastic cover. I drive a CVT.

Yeah, I wasn't saying that for your sake, more to point out to Vahagn23 that it was a completely normal sound that he experienced. Someone else had already explained it but it sounded like he didn't believe them or something.

It's my wife's Versa, and she's got it at work, but I'll check it out tonight when she gets home. I'm interested in seeing what's going on here.
