To any and all NICO members who live in or near Long Beach, CA, I need your help. JCCS is going to be held at the Queen Mary this year. totally cool, except that you have to pay $15 / night / car to park if you stay at the Queen Mary. We are taking the 411, the 311, and the Frontier hauling the 320 on a trailer. No thanks.

What I need are some suggestions on where we could stay that wouldn't beak the bank to park. Also, something preferably in a low crime area, (if that is even possible in Long Beach). I really don't want to drive all of our cars out there just so they can be vandalized/stolen.

Thanks for your help!

It;s been many many years, but I spent several weeks in Long Beach and used to stay at a 'Viscount Hotel" located literally down the street from the Queen Mary. I don't know if its still there, or if it has stayed good, but it was as close as you could get to the QM without staying aboard. Back then the prices were reasonable and the rooms were clean.

I am from Long Beach and lived here for like 20 years LOL. It depends how far are you wanting to be from the event. Huntington Beach/Bixby Knolls are nice area. You can say keep out of Eastside of LB since that is the bad area. North Long Beach is good. The Hyatt Regency near the Aquarium is one of the better area also places within Long Beach Grand Prix Road are good. Those places are near the Queen Mary, then are place even closer to Queen Mary call Hotel Maya and Residence Inn in LB Downtown. I been there a few times and I think those are places you would be much safer in.

I would just avoid being seen in the streets with the cars on trailers in the Eastside of LB where it can be seen if you are scared. So you would want to stay on the 710 which will take you to Downtown LB and the Queen Mary and driving in the streets there you would be fine unless you go into E.Anaheim/some part of PCH, LB Bvld, Cherry Ave.

You've got another Long Beach native here hoping to help you guys out.

There's also the Holiday Inn near the airport on Lakewood Blvd and Willow St. It's a bit of a drive from the Queen Mary (you would have to take the 405 North then jump onto the 710 South from there), but the rooms aren't too bad even as a spur of the moment thing. I spent about $130 for two nights there. The rooms are really clean too. I'm not sure about the parking situation for as many cars as you guys plan on bringing. But the parking lot there is fairly large, so if you get there soon enough you can get a few spots for yourself. As far as safety goes, you don't have much to worry about there. Cops patrol that area a lot. The only really bummy parts of Long Beach would be little pockets on the East side and the West side, and that's really only after the street lights come on.

I hope this helps you guys in finding a place for the event. Just as another heads up: Things get REALLY expensive the closer to downtown you get, so be prepared to deal with over-priced parking meters and gas if you guys decide to roll the cars around Shoreline.

I just looked at the map, I think the old Viscount has become a more upscale Hotel Maya, adjacent to the Queen Mary. There is also a Residence Inn on the same road. Both look a tad pricey but are located on the water, and walking distance from the QM.

Yeah, for $15/CAR/NIGHT. That's $45 a night just to park and we were planning on staying the weekend. That's why I am looking elsewhere.

Does anyone have an opinion on an area called "Seal Beach"? Someone from FB suggested it.

If these are show cars, then $45 is a small price to pay for the peace of mind. The Long Beach area can be a mixed bag depending on who rolls by that night. I would trust Lakewood more than Seal Beach to stash my cars, but even still... mixed bag.

I personally don't go into Seal Beach much (or any of Orange County really), but like anywhere it's going to have it's sections. Also, I think it's going to be more of a drive if you choose Seal Beach. If you don't want to spend a lot of cash on a hotel, the Holiday Inn is probably your best bet. Plus, they are pretty chill on parking; you just have to get there first and the spot is all yours.

Correct. Ocean Blvd can get pretty busy on the weekends (I used to live on that artery)... driving between the QM & there would likely add frustration.

It's up to you. I've parked my $60,000 Infiniti on Cherry & 1st overnight with no problems (and I normally wouldn't walk there at night). Another time I parked at a grocery store in broad daylight & came out to a large dent in the quarter panel. Most nights nothing happens, then others you get a woman driving onto the center island for two blocks, popping two tires and losing her exhaust system... all without her noticing. Or another woman hitting four parked cars before catching her wheel on one & catapulting her SUV into the intersection upside down. It's all part of the fun of Long Beach!
