Lol, I forgot the hose clamps on the fuel lines from the filter to the rail. That was fun!! And even though I very carfeully rewired my harness to use an R33 cluster, i must have done it very wrong, because none of the gauges work properly. The tach has a twitch down around 10 rpm or so. lol this is a lot of fun..

Lol, and then i was bleeding my clutch and knocked over a bottle full of brake fluid, spilling it all over my face. Brake fluid really burns the eyes, guys.

I want to thank Carl H. very much for a perfectly working harness. Engine fired up without any problems. I can't seem to get the ECU to flash me any codes though. I'm just ranting here, I'm sure that I will figure it all out eventually.

anyway, so there's this faint burning smell coming from somewhere in my engine bay. it doesn't smell like burning oil, or an electronics fire. it smells more like burning paper, cardboard, plastic. Any clues? I also can't locate exactly where it is coming from.

RB20DET into 1995 240SX

Though I can't yet drive it, and it isn't perfect, I am no longer a member of the NRRBA!!! yeah!

another member lost, tisk.

Good stuff man. Hopefully I'll make it there someday.

As far as the brake fluid in the eyes, I know how that feels, death was a close alternative to that feeling damn it stings.

New gaskets usually smoke quite a bit. Especially new exhaust gaskets.

Hey, when I started my RB for the first time I had some paint burning off...it smelled like crap for a while....also I found that since I hadn't completely tucked the whole wire harness in yet a harness plug was laying on top of the turbo and melted like cheese.....made a wonderful smell as well.

Oils from your hands will burn off also, the worst is getting oil on exhaust manifolds from handling them during the process of installing the engine. Stuff likes to smell....

Congrats on the startup! You never forget the first time it starts.

Mine smoked like crazy the first couple times that I drove it. I spilled so much stuff all over the exhaust manifold and everything else.

I haven't gotten to enjoy the proper sound yet. I'm been stumbling around in the dark during this entire swap. This the most involved work i have ever done on a car and i have no friends that could possibly assist me in any way.

The engine is not firing on all cylinders. I unplugged #1, no change. I unplug #2. engine changes. Okay so cool, let's check the coil. I swap coils #1 and #2 and then start the motor. I unplug 1# and no change. I unplug #2, no change. wtf? So now I am combing the FSM and trying to figure out what direction to go to try and diagnose what is wrong. I am now the dreaded poster with an RB who is having trouble.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to pull the codes from the ECU. I turn the ignition to on, turn the screw to the right and then back to left and light on the ECU stays constant. hmmm...

Sounds like your #1 coil pack is bad, and the #1 spark plug or wiring is faulty. To get codes off of the ECU (IIRC) you turn the screw to the left and read the dash CEL with the key in the ON position.
