I just bought a 2008 Rogue and am very pleased so far. But on delivery day I learned that there is no way to secure the fuel access, which suprised me. The dealer told me to go to a car parts place, but nobody has a locking cap for the Rogue. I called Nissan parts and they gave me the same answer. Has anyone found a locking gas cap that fits and that still can be attached to the car?

My wife visited our local Advance Auto Parts outlet today. The Stant part number listed for the Rogue is 11508. Paid $19.78 including local tax.

After installing the Stant locking gas cap, we started the Rogue and checked to make sure that no 'check engine' light was displayed.

I broke the plastic snap fastener that held the retaining strap of the stock gas cap, and removed the gas cap without damaging the strap.

UPDATE: If you can find this locking gas cap in Wal-Mart, it can be had for only about $11.50.

Good information. Thanks for the post. That gas filler access panel thing was a real surprise to us after we bought the car. Our last three cars had the release button inside the car, as it should be. Same with the removable rear seat head rests. Of course ,they should be removable. Not with the Rogue! Appearances can, but shouldn't , be deceiving.

Sometimes it takes a few days for a CEL to show since the computer can only test for fuel system leaks under certain conditions (temperature, driving distance etc). If you don't get a light after a week, you are set.
