Whats the difference? Im looking for a manual transmission and everyone i call ask me which mine is. Is there a sticker anywhere on my car that would tell me? I have a 97 model GXE.

You have an open differential - the vast majority of FWD cars come stock with them, as many people don't see the need for a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) in a FWD car.

So a "locking" trans would work? Also how rare are 5 speed mans in the first gen altimas? Most salvage yards i went to said they rarely come by them there are only 2 available anywhere near me one is 2 hours away the other is about 4 or 5 lol Thanks in advance for any answers!

Yes, however only 93-94 se models came with the locking differential transmissions. You can also use an 00-01 as they have shorter gears in them.

look inside by the driver door hinge at the transmission code...if there is an A at the end then its non lsd...if it has a V then it has lsd....
