I have a 07 m45. I remember when the salesperson showed me the car, he demonstrated that you couldn't lock yourself out of the car. He used an example of forgetting his car keys in a gym bag. He was able to pop the trunk while the keys were in his bag. Just yesterday, I purposely left my keys in the trunk and I couldn't pop the trunk. What gives?

You obviously forgot to put them in a gym bag...

I actually found out the safety feature by accident. I left my keys in my gym bag and placed it in the trunk. I then closed the trunk and it automatically popped up. i closed it again and same thing. then i remembered i left the key in the bag so i took it out and the trunk didn't pop open after i closed it. Not sure what's the deal with your car. Were you able to open the car up using the button on the dash?

The car window was down, so I was able to pop the trunk. I'm wondering why I was able to close the trunk with my keys in the trunk.

You also got to be careful with leaving the keys in the car. I was waxing it one day and had the windows down with the key in the cup holder. Suddenly the door locked activated and locked all the doors. Good thing i was able to reach in the car to grab the keys to unlock it.

or perhaps talk to a dealer about getting it fixed, especially if you still have warranty and whatnot... If you're paranoid about that costing you money, read the manual first and make sure there's not some way to disable this feature, seeing as how then you'd potentially be out a diagnostic fee if it just needs enabled as per provided instructions.

How about we just refrain from locking our keys in the vehicle. Its like walking around with your wad of cash under your chin instead of in your wallet and pocket.

I did the same thing with my golf bag after a round a few weeks ago. The keys were in my bag. I opened the trunk with the button, threw in my bag and shut the trunk lid. I second later there was a beep and the trunk lid opened.

Either you disabled it (not sure if that's possible or not) or yours is not working properly. Or the car knew your windows were down and so you would be able to open the trunk via the switch on the dash. You should do more testing with one set in the trunk, the car locked, windows up and a second key fob available to you should the test result in the first fob being locked in the trunk. keep the second fob at least 50 feet away.

My has always seem to work. I have done this a couple of times when i left my key in my golf bag. It just continues to automatically pop everytime you try to close it. However, you just never know with these things. I was goint to demonstate this to a friend and I purposely left a window down just in case. It worked but I still don't trust it all the way.

Yeup - the car knew the windows were down. I commonly refer to my car as the event horizon after the movie - it always knows what is best for me.

Tried it again today...had the window down, but this time, I locked the car. Couldn't lock the trunk. I guess, having the doors unlocked prevented this feature.
