Well ive found another reason why i dont like the gastank in my trunk:). Not sure what happened, somehow the latch mechanism got disconnected from the linkage....I know your thinking that its the lockout in the glovebox...nope i wish. The key the remote nor the release on the door will NOT release the latch. OK this is on a 97 Q45 anyone got any advice? I havnet tried to get in via the backseat yet but am fairly sure i can not fit by the gastank to squeeze into the trunk. Anyone got a sawzall:)?.

Ouch, that's a rare one. Silly question, did you try pushing the trunk lid down while playing with the mechanism? Geez, I have no idea how you would open the trunk without a working latch and without destroying something! Best way would probably be to drill out the lock. I'm pretty sure removing the back seat won't help at all.

I tried pushing up and down on the lid while pushing the remote unlock and using the key...No luck.

Wow... that's a tough one... hope it doesn't come down to a crowbar! I'm not familiar with the 97Q, but do you think removing the rear seat and finishers would allow enough access to get to the latch with a large screwdriver after destroying the interior trim panels? I'd try to get another Q of the same body style to study - that'll help you determine what might be broken and how to get to it...

I once locked myself in the trunk (long story, don't ask :)), but never locked myself out...

Would breaking out a taillight for access be an option?

I might be able to get it thru a speaker hole. I dread the thought of the cost of a new tail light...Ill let you guys know what happens:).

Does your car have that compartment between the rear speakers like my 90? Removal of that should leave a big hole centered on the trunk latch. Best of luck!

There is a little switch in the glove box that only allows the key too work...thats not the problem with mine.I did however get in! Pure luck be it good or bad:). I removed the lisence plate hopeing to see what i dont know but in fustration i smacked the area behind the plate...I tried the release on the door a couple times and behold the trunk poped open! WOOHOO! I pulled the cosmetic panel to see what the heck was up...It appears that a stupid little nut had loosened up off of one of the tail lights and found a home in the latch mechanism apparently when i whacked the decklid it jarred it loose...I got ultra lucky, so i thightened all the nuts on the taillights and all were kinda loose by the way....So no holes drilled or knocked out lenses or worse:)...Thanks for all that advised me in this delema!

That's good news! I was afraid of a crowbar and paint job... I wonder what caused all of those tail light nuts to be loose? You might put a little silicone or something between them and the metal and then tighten if they loosen off again...

I may have to do that or use some locktite as ive tightened them before Not sure if theres a vibration causing them to loosen or what...

Thanks!
