Alright, so i bought this 1993 nissan 240 coupe with a ka24de that seems to be locked, though the plugs seem fine, the timing chain is in tact, i did notice that the exhaust cam was locked and when i removed the caps i noticed a small seemingly polished look through the center of them. Could this cause the entire engine to lock up? When i removed the caps i did smell burnt oil, and the oil had a small amount of metal shavings when i drianed a small amount from the pan. i have a photo on my comp but don't know how to add it to this thread

what happens when u rotate the engine by the front pulley. does the engine accually lock up when turning it or u can t turn it at all? well with the metal shavings in the oil and the problem with the cam and the burn oil it sounds like it has either been hot or ran low on oil witch in that case i would try to find a running engine someone removed for a turbo swap. u may not need it, but to find what the bottom end looks like u must look yourself to know. witch the place to start there is by removing the oil pan. well let me know what your results are id like to know. i just got done replaceing my ka24e last nite that had the same problem!!! i did a hole engine swap cause the engine i bought the car with had no oil pressure and wore out the cam journals(gone). i found that engine for 2 bills and bout 15 hours of hard work doin the swap and im back on the road.

I've tried moving the pulleys and they won't budge either. I'm trying to get a hold of a new battery at the moment, thought i have considered the swap route. It seems pretty straight foward, what all is involved in the swap?

if you cant move the engine by the front pully then ur engine is junk, keep it for parts just in case, i need the old motor for little odds and ends. and on the swap its not to bad. the hardest part is getting the clutch to line up with the transmission ull need another person for that for sure everything else u can surely do yourself i did. well on do in the swap i can explane it descriptively but lets wait till you find a engine to swap. just remember when you turn wrenches its all just nuts and bolts. if you need any more advice let me know. the rest of this site as well as i should be able to give you good advice on the swap. if you have money to spend you can go with an aray of engines but the easiest swap would be to swap your engine out for an identical one. i found my engine for only 2 bills u can to. u have a ka24de right.

Since i'm prob gonna have to do an engine swap, i was starting to consider an sr20. By the time i would have invested enough money into the ka24 i could've bought an sr20, though i'll miss the torque. Where would you suggest i look for one? What would be involved in that swap, if it isn't a direct bolt in?

dont think that would quite explain why the belts don't turn. Well, that and the cam shaft was pretty stuck too, when i removed the cam holders i could smell the burnt oil and they have some scratches on them too though it looks like they can be polished out. I've posted up some other threads with questions too in an effort to be able to participate in the marketplace here. What could you tell me about sleeving an sr20 block?
