I started up my 01 Frontier then attempted to get out to scrape windshield. Neither the electronic unlock or the manual unlock by the door handle would uunlock the doors. I ended up powering down the window and reaching outside to manually unlock with my key. (My key fob/security is after market and no longer trustworthy so I do not use.) Has this happened to anyone else? I figure it must me something slipping in the locking mechamism, but why does my key still work?

The key actuates the lock directly, where the manual lock lever and electronics use a rod and cam to actuate it. So there's probably something bent or disconnected in the linkage between those components. I'd pull the door panel and see if you can see anything. Sometimes there are slip or clip connectors that could potentially come lose in the linkages, so it's possible (though unlikely) that you might just need to reattach something.
