Rough day... feel I should share a story with y'all, lol

Had my first experience locking my keys in the car. Was at a Chinese restaurant today, ordered food to go, sat in the car to wait for it, enjoying the sun. About when I thought the food was ready I went back inside to pick it up and went back to the car, the door wouldn't open, no keys in my pocket... Really couldn't believe that happened but for some reason I've been expecting it lately with the type of forgetful mind I have, lol.

I got REALLY lucky though, 3 lube shops down the street, 3 auto part stores around me, 2 tire shops around me, I swear each place was only 40 seconds walking distance from me or less. So I end up going to Autozone and asked someone to help me or to tell me what I could do, and they didn't seem really in the helping mood, and told me to go to O'Riley auto parts across the street and maybe they'll have a slim jim, totally different attitude there. The guy at O'Riley asked if I wanted to borrow or buy and I said my wallet was also in the car so he let me borrow their slim jim but made me promise to return it lol, which I had no idea how to use. Luckily someone from this Mobil lube shop right beside the Chinese restaurant saw me crossing the street and passing their shop a couple of times (they were all outside working on cars and I thought to ask for help at first but was too nervous.) Anyways, I walked passed their shop again with the slim jim in my hand looking like I was gonna kill someone and I heard hollering but didn't turn around. Went to my car to try to get it open and turned to the left and 2 mechanics were walking towards me from Mobil asking if I needed help, lucky me X] lol. They tried to do it but didn't know how so they told me I could pay 20 dollars at their shop and they could use their own tools and I said I'll try it some more but thank you so they left. Couldn't get it open myself and saw one guy coming back again to see if I was okay, and I said I'll go ahead and pay, lol. He then just said if I gave him 10 dollars (I suppose instead of paying Mobil Lube, he wanted to pocket money) he'll do it that way. Pried the door open (my poor j30 :[ ) and unlocked the car by sliding a bar in and pressing the power unlock. Payed him 10 dollars, returned the slim jim to O'Riley, and went on my way home. What a day x.x

I'm also curious did I do the right thing and if 10 dollars was too much to pay just to get my car unlocked? Confused on if those guys were showing courtesy or were they following me to make a quick buck (damsel in distress?) Either way, I appreciated and they were the ones that opened it so can't complain too much. Has anybody else been in similar situations?? X] curious

I have a copy of a key I keep in my wallet & a spare at home. The one time I did lock the keys in the car I whipped out the spare in my wallet.

Is that a picture of your J?

The rear passenger side rim has a left side wheels on it, the spokes are backwards. Look at the front passenger side , that is the proper direction of the spokes.

$10 is CHEAP!!!!

Getting a locksmith to open it probably wouldve been around $100+

I believe when I got 2 new tires they got switched around maybe, never noticed until now. Thanks for telling me! And yeah, two keys come in handy which is why I have two keys, but one was with my mom who was at work so I suppose that doesn't come in handy. Good ideas though, Maybe I'll get one more key made, lol

I figured that :S. Good thing I didn't go that route. I would've rather broke my window in than do that, or walk home til the person with the other set of keys came home haha.

Having locked out myself from my car during a snowstorm, I always keep a spare key on my person.

Probably not the smartest but I have one in a plastic key holder box, (you know those hide a key things?), wrapped in duck tape and tied with wire underneath the rear of the car. Came in handy when my car decided to lock me out while it was running in a town far from home. Ha

ive thought about that, with the box thingie. ive locked myself out of my car numerous times. once, i was like 100+ miles away from home, for a concert, and my ex was under 21, and it was a 21 and up show.... i learned that when i got there, so i was stranded outside cuz of her, and i locked my key in the car... i saw two cops driving by, so i flagged them down and asked for help, explained the situation, and they were like, sorry we cant help, its a liability thing. so i just had to wait like 3 hours for AAA
