So now that its January its time to start putting my car back together for next season but I have a problem with engine management. I purchased a used Power FC last year in hopes of saving a few bucks by not getting the commander with the box. When I went to tune last year my tuner told me that the previous tuner put a password lock on the box(he must of had some super top secret maps haha), and he could not reset it with just the pro-software. Long story short I lost my deposit not to mension the wasted time and travel expenses.

From the information I have gathered from Apexi and some other Apexi Dealers is that the only way to get passed the lock is to flash the box. Apparently this can be done three different ways: using the commander, Datalogit, or sending it back to Apexi for it to be flashed. Just like everyone else im on a tight budget for the upcomming season and I am looking for a way around purchasing software and/or a commander, plus I dont feel compitent is sending my box back to Apexi and having it returned in a timely manner.

If anyone has encountered a similar problem or can shine some new light on my situation its greatly appreciated. Thanks

You....couldn't get the password from the previous owner? Does he not remember it or something?

If not, I'd suggest making a copy of the purchase info for Apex'i if they need it, and sending it back to them. You've still got plenty of time until it warms up, assuming you're in the US.

Yea I tried to get the password from the guy I bought it from, but tuners aren't very open to giving up their maps and I never got a response. Yea its gonna be a while before it gets warm, but yet again i was planning on getting some seat time early this year down at Summit Point in march. I literally would need a commander for 10 minutes and I would be set.

Its not that the guy I bought the FC from won't give me the password its the tuning shop that tuned his setup. Most people are unaware that the tuner locks thier maps in most cases. I think its unbelievable that the A'pexi pro tuning software cannot flash/reset the unit. I really would like to find someone semi-local that has a commander that would reset my FC for me. My buddy is the only other person with an sr20 with full standalone engine management but he went EMS (baller status)..

So, basically, that tuner shop is refusing you service, then? I mean, either way you'll have to re-tune the ECU, so they're just getting all nose up and telling you to piss off?

Kill them. Down to the last man.
