Ok, I'm trying to track down the location/color of the IGN and ECCS relays on a 94 Q45.

The only info I have is that they are located here (5 relays total in this location) and are both Green:

HOWEVER, after searching in and around this location for about 2 hours, I can't find them anywhere. On my car there are only 3 relays in this location, none of them are Green. Does anyone know if Nissan ever put them somewhere else besides this location? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

Yes thats right, there are only 3 relays back there.. One should be brown, for the security system, the other 2 should be standard blue ones.. The one on the far right is for the ECU.

I have one brown one, one black one, and one smaller blue one.

I assumed the black one was for security system, since it had all small gauge wires.

no the brown one is definitely for the security system.. I don't know which one between the blue and black is for the the ECU, I would have to look at the FSM... I am thinking the blue one is though, for some reason..

If you can't figure it out, post back up and I'll do some digging.. :)

Could you give me the link to the FSM diagram? I am looking through it here:

But, can't seem to locate the relays on the schematic

To make sure we're all talking about the same bundle of relays...... after the ECU is removed these are hidden behind a foam cover that you peel or cut away. Remove one bolt/screw holding a bracket and the entire relay bundle pulls out. Same one? Did the bundle you pulled out have 5 relays? The picture posted from the FSM seems straightforward on which relay is which, regardless of color.

The FSM shows blue, black, green, green standardized relays. One of these must be visible above the ECU and not part of the bundle.

For schematics, I found the theft warning relay in the starting system schematic, page EL-15. The other 2 will be in similar areas in the EL section of the FSM. I have a bag full of standardized relays, in all colors, if you need some.

Yes, we are talking about the same bundle of relays, in the same location.

However, there are only 3 relays in that location instead of 5, like the fsm says. The colors via the FSM are not correct, as there are no green relays. The picture I posted of which relay is which per the FSM is incorrect as well if elwesso is correct about the brown relay being for the security system.

Also, the theft warning relay on EL-15 does not match the wiring colors on any of the 3 relays I have.

Make sure you know the difference between the wiring for all differnt years of Q45's!

1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993 all had small changes in wiring/Control Units.

The 1994-1996 Infiniti Q45 uses a Body Control Module (BCM) which removes the need for some relays or simply relocates them into the Control Unit (CU).

Did you look in the Harness layout section?

And yes the Factory Service Manual (FSM) does have a lot of mistakes!

I have a hard copy of the 90 and 92 manuals and compared them to the 94 PDF version....same colors, same 3 relays, same locations. It looks like there's problems with the FSMs.

Well, I can only assume since my car is a '94, the '94 FSM would be the one I should be looking at.

How would you know if these relays are now part of the CU?

I did look in the harness layout section, it showns them in the location I posted above.

The wires leading to the ECCS Relay are:

2X: White with a Red stripe
1X: Grey with a Red stripe
1X: Black with a White stripe

The wires leading to the Ignition Coil Relay are:

1X: White with a Black stripe
1X: Grey with a Red stripe

Look at the BF section and look at the seats in that section, I am sure you will get a good laugh!

I don't have any relays with those colors in that location. :( This is why I'm quite confused. The Brown Relay has 2 Red/White's but there are 4 other wires going there as well, none of which match those listed.

The Blue relay has a White/Black wire, and 3 other wires none of which are Grey/Red.

Elwesso - You seem to have tracked these down before. If you wouldn't mind posting up what you found to be the ECU relay, and ignition relay that would be great!
