Ok.... Got the car back today.....

1. They found the vacuum leak (had a really nifty smoke machine, hook up to brake booster and voila... smoke comes from leak) its around the blow by hose near the TB...... I fortunately wont have to deal with the TB again, worst case I just unbolt the plenum and figure out what the deal is......

2. Idler pulley is bad, but they cant figure out which one it is..... The noise doesnt last long enough for them to get a scope or something on it.... They said for me to bring it back in when and if it gets worse for further diagnosis.....

3. Oil is changed, no oil light upon startup (engine was pretty cold)... I will report back tomorrow.....

Im going to look into the vacuum leak this weekend.....

Best to just replace all the idler pulleys, if one is bad they all are. There is a hard to see hose directly below the TB that will test your list of expletives. It's slightly easier to deal with if you take off the big intake hose.

I think its that blow by hose near the right hand side of the TB (looking from the side).... It looks as if its connected but maybe its slit or something.... Im going to do some more investigating this weekend.....

How mcuh would it cost me to replace all the idlers...?

I'd guess $150-200. Consider doing the belts too if necessary since the labor's free at that point. Probably $30-35 for all 3.

Ok.... I got my little vacuum lines fixed.... I think its better, but still not acceptable (was 1250, now just below.) I have NO idea where this is coming from, as I said earlier the guy said that the smoke from the smoke machine was coming from around the back right leg of the plenum..... ANY IDEAS???

I will probably end up having the guys hook the machine up to it while Im at the place.... i guess that will be easier....

Disconnect the brake booster hose from the plenum and look just underneath that point with a flashlight for a tube with a missing vacuum line.

It's entirely possible that the o-ring on that leg didn't seat properly, or was pinched when you put it back on. I've seen this happen twice on "Q1" - and these were master techs. that put it back together! Try again spraying brake parts cleaner in that area.

Ok, took the car in today...

I had a leaky tire that had a nail in it, got that fixed... Those guys are so nice, when I went to pick it up they hooked it up to the machine for me....

What I found out was this is REALLY gonna SUCK finding this.... The smoke is coming from right around that blowby hose.... It looks as if its one of those little hoses under the plenum....

GREAT, I get to tear it all apart this weekend!! :(
