My dots on my cam sprockets are lined up with the outside walls of engine, but my lobes are not facing outside, does this matter???

I seen some pics that ppl have the dots lined and the lobes are facing the outside too,

are you sure you don't have intake and exhaust switched? cuz the dots are different compared to the lobes.

I dont know if i have them switched, but Im told they are right (dont know for sure) but I still do the lobes have to be pointing to the outside opposite of each other to be timed (or do I just have to line up the dots on the cam sprockets??

first make sure the one with the green stripe is intake and the one with the orange stripe is exhaust.then make sure you're using the right silver links, cuz they're NOT evenly spaced on the chain.

not including the silver links themselves, there should be 6 links between the cam dots, 6 links between the idler sprocket dot and exhaust cam dot, and 9 links between the idler sprocket and intake cam dot.

if you have crank and idler sprocket set up right, the dot on the idler sprocket dot should be at 6 o'clock when cylinder #1 is at tdc. then, the exhaust cam dot will be at 2:30, and the intake cam dot will be at 12 o'clock.

hope this helps

hey there is a small hole in the groves of the idler sprocket or are u talking about a notch above it to be at 6 oclock when positional the timing?

here's how it oughtta look

i'm using 2 exhaust cams so that's why the intake one is rotated. just match up the dot to the silver link for an actual intake cam

the lobes for cylinder #1 should be pointing away from eachother and slightly up. same as the dots.
