I drove a 1986 200SX (RWD) for 4 years in NY, so I have had my share of experience with RWD in the snow. Not as much as other states, but NY does get some amount of snow. The 200sx would spin out and skid on any mount of snow. I would put 200lbs of salt in the trunk which would help a little. Then I got a 92 Maxima (FWD) and the difference was night and day. Much safer feeling in the Max and would rarely skid. I havent driven the Versa in the snow yet but I have confidence that it will handle very nicely. Just my 2 cents.

FWD is good in the snow. Haven't had my V in snow yet but I think it'll do just fine. If snow removal in your area is not too great you might want to consider snow tires for the front. (where the heck is Carbondale?)

FWD is a lot better in snow. I've never driven a RWD before but a friend of my mom's drives a minivan that's RWD and she had to trade it in for another car that is FWD. She says the van skids like crazy in the snow.

Where I live, average winter temperature is about -20C and the family cars, all FWD, run fine. The cars run on all season tires although I am planning on putting winter tires on for my Versa. If you got winter tires on, you should be fine in the winter.

I drove the V from NY to CALI and then back all in 8 days not to mention the 100s of miles i put in Cali, and it runs great. It came to a total of 7k miles in 2 weeks.
