Hey I've been considering swapping a ford 9" rear into the z for better traction/ stability when racing. (Obviously, I'm talking about drag racing.)

Has anyone on this forum done this? Just curious as to what the results were...

it's been done, it oc course has to be narrowed and you have to basically backhalve the car to put it in, I have a bud in PA running a small block and a solid axle it runs 10.52 in the quarter, great for drag, crap for street or autocross

I've got a Ford 9" we put in my Jeep, lockers and all that. it's definitely a wide axle, though you can get one from a Ford mustang, or a corvette that is a lot more narrow than the ones from Ford trucks. I would suggest going with an 8.8" rear end, they're more common these days and most can be had with disk brakes already installed. they're almost as strong as the 9" but with a much stronger pinion since they don't have a 3rd member like the 9" does. Most 8.8's also come with the 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern which is common for most cars today, as compared to the 5 on 5.5 that most 9"'s have. Lastly a lot of 8.8's have flanged housings availiable for independant suspensions and though it would add more breakable U joints, it might make it easier to adapt to the Z's frame.
