Finally, and at last, little nissan is about to get an organ transplant form a willing donor. She wil be getting a used transmission, which costs me about $350.

She will also get a new clutch cable, a new clutch system, a new replaced rear main oil seal, a new water pump and thermostat. At 254,000 miles, she deserves some loving.

As for the G, it nees two new rear tires. Rear ones are almost bald but they are still good in grip and handling, especially with the VDC ON. I have no doubt that the Toyo Proxes T1R tires, whether new or totally bald, are excellent tires.

I think you should do a RB20DET swap into your little nissan...then you'll really like driving it!

how have your T1R's handled in the rain?

The T1R is exceptional in the rain. I think I did a write up on that as well. With VDC OFF you can confidently do 70 -80 miles or more per hour without problems, so long as you are still within 0 - 10,000 miles of tire use. With VDC ON, in the rain, I have gone well beyond the stated limit above--no problems.

When I tried this with the Bridgestone Potenzas, it was the worst driving nightmare of my life. i was soaked and drenched form over-concentrating and hoping that i do not make a mistake or hydroplane.

But, until you take the car to a twisty track with the T1Rs, you will never fully appreciate the awesomeness of a T1R tire---the car literally glides on the twisty road while firmly planted. At some point, it starts feeling like you are in an amusement park as the control and grace with which the car takes the curves, is so sweet. The problem with the twisty curves is that it uses up your rear tires quickly because all the balance you need as you come out of a curve, falls on the rear wheels. The front wheels are still good for another 4K - 7K miles.

Hey stranger how've you been?

That's nothing major given its at 1/4 million miles. If entrusted to the right to the right tech you senior citizen of a car should be fine. Are you getting a junkyard trans? New fluid? Warranty on parts?

Oh as a quick word of advise. Since you will have the coolant system open you may want to "start fresh". I am a HUGE fan of the OE long life coolant and distilled water. Ok I will admit I lacked the distilled water in my dinosaur (:P It was snowing and my car was already torn apart) but it's the best way to prolong the life of everything it touches. The initial cost is a little more but there is no scaly buildup and distilled water is....well distilled and clean. If you thoroughly clean the coolant out of the car and refill it with this, your carkarma points will increase greatly. That's just my stealership loyalty showing.

Be careful on bald tires. Curbs hurt.

Dear Steve:

I am doing fine. How are you? I went to a salvage yard last week and got me a used transmission. I agree with you. My Tech will be doing the surgery all through this week. I should be getting her back from the hospital, by Friday.

Yep, she needs our prayers. But I think she is gonna be fine. She is gonna need some rehabilitation to get back in business.

Before surgery, she ran on only 4 gears. After surgery, she shoul have her 5th gear, ready to rumble.

I thought about feeding her some Royal Purple while she recuperated, and I was not sure how that would work out especially knowing that Royal Purple does have a 20W-50 oil, and thats exactly the grade my little nissan uses.

I shall wait and see. I am seriously thinking about buying a completely rebuilt engine and transmission sometime in 2011. The cost will be about $3K. For now, i am just gonna wait and see.

Dear Tampa;

I have no idea how she is gonna be after the surgery. I am waiting in anticipation. I think she will be able to get more miles before i do a complete overhaul of the whole car and rebuild it back up, from scratch.
