I am getting closer to having everything back together on my z, but i have this weird problem with the low beams. When you turn the switch to low beam no power is sent to the bulb all other lights come on (tail lights, dash lights). Now for the weird part when switched to high beam, low and high beam have power. could this just be a relay? or is there a fuse somewhere just for low beam?

when the high beams come on the low beams should go off, the switch stalk is a common issue as these cars age but thye generally just stop working, for both to come on with the high beams I'd take a good hard look at the wiring around the sowtch and hea headlights, I wonder if someone monkeyed the wiring

alot of people wire in their high beams with the low beams, because as evildky mentioned, when you switch from low beams to high beams, the lows shut off. drivers dont like the look so they wire the two together. it sounds like the low beams were spliced in with the high beams. check the wiring. i had to fix the wiring of my friends civic ef9 only a few hours ago, it's very common.

i didnt see anything that was messed with, but it did have hids wired in when the kid crashed it so maybe something ended up getting shorted or something.

i checked all the wires and they all are in tack, so i am guessing the next step would be the switch? the only wire that was missing the connector was the pass. side low beam but the wires havent been hacked into anywhere, its just missing the connector. maybe it grounded out? what would happen if it grounded out? thanks

i took the hids out they were installed where the connecters were. when i take the bulbs out and switch it to low beam no power is sent to the low beam wires, but when i turn the high beams on i get power to the low beam wires and high beam wires. doesnt make sense to me.

wait, your complaint is that the low beams stay on when the high beams come on?

no the problem is the low beams wont come on by themselves (nothing happes when switched to low). So i have no low beams, they only work with the high beams on (both high and low come on when switched to high)

blindly replacing parts isn't the answer, you need to troubleshoot, if you can't figure out testing for voltage and trigger voltage at the relay you might be better served taking it to someone who car, find someone in your area that specializes in electrical troubleshooting you'll be suprised ho easy it can be to narrow these things down

the car is not on the road and i live in the country, if i knew what to look for i could do it myself. i doubt there is anyone within a half hour that specializes in electrical.
