little confused,anyone running a q45 maf?

ok the other day I got a good deal on a set of q45 injectors and maf,the injectors are easy enough, but the maf is confusing me, as well as the posts I have read from my searches.

one says white is ground while others state it as the signal wire. which is what please. I did already try wiring it in to my car both ways, got the car to idle( way rich) one way then the other way it would die when gas was applied.I heard you need so much pipe before the maf? why its directly after the filter stock?I know this is been done so any help would be great
