Well I just talked to my 16y.o. brother who has no job, no car, and no license. The license part isnt his fault he has to wait for 9 months with his permit [BS] and my mom couldnt afford drivers ed when he turned 15 [$500, BS pt II]. But he spends his money on stupid things and is finally starting to realize that having a car would be much nicer than the other crap. I've been trying to sell him the idea of an S13 project for some time now and I think I might of done it! We were looking on craigslist and found a bunch of S13s under $1k, so I told him if he can buy it then my dad & I can help rebuild it. Oh and I said he could have my old T25 to boost it as well .

All he has to do now is get a job and save up some money! [Hopefully before I move to LA] And we may have a new NICOian!

Just thought Id share my excitment

project at 28 = win. 15 years old he should be encouraged for good grades and a future in college. a backyard project that will suck up all his funds with his summer job is not a great idea.

true but it could be worse...a 15 yo dumpin his extra bankroll into other things... He'll definitely learn a lot and won't turn out to be a snotty little teenager that is given everything and later one would be able to fend for himself if a car would to take a crap on him. lol yeah, i'm done haha

My dad's an REO house executive, so he was able to hook me up by having the bank give me trashed forclosed homes and for each home I do its $500 flat everyday fee. All I really have to do is vaccum and mop them. I use to do 4 houses a week which is 2 grand a week 8 grand a month. So ya that's my story. I just picked up my RB yesterday. I have plenty of body work to do but im all up for it.

So pretty much, you're Dad's rich. I'm not hating though, it's not like we chose our parents.

^^^ Exactly what I was thinking lol

OP, why don't you instead guide your brother into investing his money and not throwing it into somethings thats just going to depreciate in value. Especially now while the markets low.

I say go for it, hell why not might as well learn at an early age. By the time he's grown up he'll have a good understanding on how stuff works (not the website lol) I have a 14 year old cousin who wants a 240 hehe, when I bought my 240 he fell in love with it, he also looks up to me a lot so..... Just make sure you lead him in the right direction so he won't do anything dumb with it.

Im shocked at the response! he is 16, turning 17 in september, sorry for that misunderstandin. I bought my first car when I was 17 for $3500 cash and my second car when I was 18 which was my 240 and I only wish I could have had the knowledge I do now at his age. He likes cars but he was looking at Civics and Eurovans before I showed him the 240-which I think is an important change lol. Hes not stupid, my dad and I are both car guys and a little strict when it comes to that kinda thing trust me he wont be doin anything TOO stupid.

The plan is to get a KA running [if its not] and have him a clean 5 speed car for a while til he learns something. THEN we'll upgrade it and me and my bro can ride together Wasnt going to build him a race car out of the box. Plus I really want to spend as much time as possible with my brother since I'm leavin in 6 months and I'll probably only be back for 2 weeks around christmas every year.

I put almost $3k into my GTP at 17, and I'll have close to $10k in my S13 at 19. I'm a sophomore in College and movin across the country-so its entirely possbile my friend. Its about balance!

I'm with Driftboy07, let the kid learn something that so he can do his own repairs and possibly make money helping out friends in the future.

At least he has support if he starts a project, I am teaching my self like most people on here are and I am at a point where I trade services for money and beer and whatnot and its great.

It's funny how someone sais something, and all people read is what they want to see written. He said his dad had the bank give him trashed homes to clean and the bank would resell. The bank would proffit and give him $500 for cleaning it. He worked for his money. He just knows a guy who knows a guy.

Don't worry. Different perspectives I guess. I'm all for it. My dad and I are the only 2 males in the family so when he was away for 6+ months (Navy), I had no one to help me with a project car. Cars are a fantastic way of keeping kids off the streets and drug free. Automotive isn't just a hobby, it's also a possible career. Cars aren't going anywhere. We will always need mechanics in the future. Would you rather have a passionate tech who's been working on cars sence 16/17 and has propper training, or a tech who has propper training and is just in it for the money? I always look at the tech's car(s) just as I always look for fat chefs. Cause you can't trust a skinny cook.
