little annoying problems that need attention

alright well i have a couple things wrong with my car that need attention. first some important info. the car is a 1991 240sx which i converted to 5speed a year ago. the only wires on the transmission harness that i connected were the ones for the speedometer. problem 1: the alternator will only start to charge at 2800 rpm. 2: when i push on the brakes the car pulls hard to the right. i have already rebled the whole brake system. 3: the engine makes the usual chain rattle noise and i have removed the little bar across the top and unlike most 200k motors mine looks brand new under the cover. so i am sure the tensioners are not gunked up. also the top end knocks between 2 and 3k .this started about 2 months ago. and i run amsoil 10 30 with filter and change every 10,000 miles.i plan on reshimming it in a couple weeks when i take measurements but i am still wondering if it could be something else cause Nothing appears to be worn.also since i am going to be ripping my head apart should i go ahead and do a different cam setup cam setup or stick with the 91 factory setup. and lastly the a/c compressor will not turn on when i psh the button. it has a full charge of R134a and a new dryer with pressure switch. the light comes on but no compressor so in the meantime i have been using a switch for manual operation. also how much should power drop when running the a/c i notice a considerable difference and my car makes nearly 200rwhp. my last 2 240's have not had a/c so i wouldnt have something to compare to. i appreciate any help
