Ok, So Im currently on one week workmans comp for a bad cut I got on the back of my hand, and had to get 6 staples. Fun times I tell you. Ive now been on and off this site for a year, and with my current time off, I thought Id share some info about myself, my experiences with my Versa, and spring plans for the car.
About me, I was born 1980, joined the Marine corps in 1998, got out in 2002. Then been doing random jobs from insurance, to landscaping to about 5 different companies for Car Stereo/Electronics install. I try and answer questions on here about car electronics, BUT im more of a hands on guy and usually cant explain how I do stuff, I just do it. lol
I got heavily into cars around 99 while living in San Diego, and have owned about 13-15 cars since then. Ive had everything from Civics, TT 300ZX, Datsun 280ZX, 02 Camaro, old camaros, C5 Corvette, 05 Raven R1 (180hp bike) and on and on.
So with most of my cars only lasting about 6 months in my hands, I decided to TRY and get a car I would keep for a long time. So the time came to sell my 06 Daytona Charger, sold it for $30k and bought the Versa with plans to become 100% debt free and concentrate on other parts of life.
So about 10 Months after buying the Versa, and about 3 different Stereo setups lol, I became debt free. And without a single paycheck of being debt free, I bought my woman a Ring. So I jumped right back into $750 a month payments. With the Ring going to be paid off in roughly a month. Ive decided since it basically has been 1 year since I bought the Versa, Its time to do some creature comfort items, and little items I think would spruce it up a little bit.
I bought my Versa S, on Jan 11 2007 with 9 miles on the clock, half of that was from my test drive. It came with ABS, Power locks, power windows, and keyless, and the stainless door sills. I test drove a different color for about 50 miles to see if I liked the car, then picked up the color I wanted. I wanted a 6 speed, but with none within 500 miles, I did not want to buy one without seeing how the stick felt in these cars, so I bought my 2nd option, the regular Auto, im not a fan of the CVTs.
SOO, basically 1 year has passed, Im at roughly 27,500 miles, and just changed the oil AGAIN this morning. Just a hair late of when I was supposed to (27,000) so that marked it 9th oil change. If I remember correctly I switched to Mobile 1 at 6000 miles, and have been running that since.
So far I have been using OEM replacement air filters, and I assume I need to do my Cabin filter, havent looked at it yet, but it seems most on here do it at 15k miles, so im sure Im due.
I did replace my stock hubcaps with a set of aftermarket rims I had laying around from one of my old hondas, they were 15s, so I just reused the stock tires. I think they are Motegi MR7s, Honestly, I dont know what they are, now thats sad. Other than that Ive only done a bunch of audio to it, and pulled out, put different in, pulled it out, different in, and so on.
About a month ago, I hit a pretty large racoon or some thing about 30lbs at roughly 80mph. Didnt do much obvious damage other than a 2 inch crack going across the bottom of the center opening. Due to that happening, and It has now been a year that ive owned this car, and still dont see me selling it for any reason, to me, its too cheap, ehh bad word, Ill use its too inexpensive of a car to sell towards a new one. And the woman likes it, so Ive decided to keep this car till it blows up. With this decided, I am going to do some basic stuff to it to make it a more enjoyable car to own.
My current list of mods to do when I make the last ring payment is as follows.
Front Stillen lip, To cover crack in front bumper. Have stock sideskirts painted at the same time. AEM Cold air intake, not for performance, but I hate the design of the stock air box, and I hope it adds 1 or 2 mpg. OEM Versa floor mats, mine didnt come with any. Center ArmrestEibach springsWindow tint.
That concludes my list.
I figure that list will make a good difference in the daily drive I have, while improving comfort, and making it a little more fun to drive. I have no intentions of making this a performance car, but I wouldnt mind a little more pep, and wake it up a little. I dont want to add an exhaust, I would prefer to keep the car absolutely quite. Ive added A LOT of sound deadening to this car, to help its already quite ride. Ive also considered adding a lightweight crank pulley, to help free up a could hp, without adding any noise to the car.
Besides that, once the above list is complete I MIGHT look into nicer rims, but I figure by then, it will be spring, and Ill be ready to buy my 2nd C5 Corvette. Of all the cars ive owned, that was my Favorite. So In about 2-3 months, Ill start my search again for a 2000ish 6speed Corvette again.
Besides that, Thanks for reading, that was my time killer, for yet another day off while on workmans comp. AND I wrote this while watching Ballz of Fury.
