Well, you read the title, so here it is:

Approx install time: 1/2 hour (I took my time)

Materials:

2 Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) switchesMinimum of 6 EACH of Male and Female spade connectors (get a pack of each)16-18 gauge wire (length varies on where you mount your switches)

NOTE: If you've done the "snip the brown wire for sleepy eyes" mod, you need to reconnect that wire first. This mod enables separate control of motors and lights.

This is the result:

First thing, find this relay box:

Then find this relay:

Unplug it and put it belly up in the open spot a lil to the left so you can see the prongs.

Make 4 wires like the pic below about 6" long. Each wire should have 1 male and 1 female spade connector. Also make 4 wires long enough to route from the relay box to wherever you'd like to control the lights from (I went into the cabin for convenience's sake, through the grommet for the hood release cable). The second set of four wires should consist of 2 wires with male on one end and your choice of connection to a switch on the other end and 2 wires with female on one end and switch connection on the other. I just soldered to the switch contacts.

The first set of 4 should look like this:

Ok, now picture your relay and relay socket as follows:

Now numbered for convenience and lack of headache:

Ok, now follow with me here. This is where it will get confusing if you don't keep up. Connect 1, 3, 4, and 6 with the 4 small wires. Prongs 2 and 5 are the ones that will be switched. Connect a male/switch wire to socket #2, then to a switch, then connect a female/switch wire to the switch, then out to relay prong #2. Basically now you have a long, switched prong 2 to socket 2 wire. Make sense? Good. Do the same for 5.

Here, you can see a socket with five of the six connections in (the open spot was left there on purpose for a better view):

And here's the relay side, in its new spot, again with one wire off for emphasis:

Close up the relay box, with your switched wires hanging out (or mounted in the car, or in the relay box)

Now for the fun part, which is confusing at first, but makes total sense once you try it.

Make sure your lights are turned off and the flip-ups are closed.

Turn both your new switches on and observe how when they are on, the lights and flip-ups work just like normal.

Make sure your lights are turned off and the flip-ups are closed again.

Turn both your switches off. Turn your headlights on. Notice that they are lit, but closed. Now, if you flick one of the switches up really quick (for just a split second), your headlights will rachet upwards. Kinda like the brown wire method, but this one controls them on the way up. Flick the switch til you get the desired height. Leave your switches the way they are and turn your headlights on and off. Now only the lights go on and off, but your flip-ups stay still. How cool. If you want to reset to normal, at any time, just flick both switches on.

Now, you too can be as cool as I.

Let me know if this is confusing or if more info is needed.

^^^ Pull the fuse man!

Cool write up, one that's not the brown wire and not the controller, both of which have been covered. None of you ****ers start arguing about sleepy-eye methods, I HATE those threads...

Do the lights flip up for night driving? Or are you just able to see like 2 feet in front of you?

lol. wow. i have never seen that vid in english... i just watched that vid super carefully, but my version didnt have subtitles

just cutting the brown wire does not allow the lights to stay on (at least on the 240's ive seen)

and yes, the lights will flip fully open again for night driving.

and hey, i dont see any probs with sleepies on a stock car. i love the stock bodylines and i know my car isnt fast, but its my baby and its fun to drive, and i have had sleepies since before it became a bandwagon thing.

and this method allows more precision than the brown wire's "double click" crap. that was annoying. this way, if you overshoot your height goal, you just flick the switches back to on and its good to go again.

I just installed fog lights and jsut set my headlight and unplugged the motors. Drive around on highbeams and foglights. If you want control:1st: Snip brown wire2nd: Do the double click to set them3rd: Pull the light fuse out of your kick panel(or wire in a toggle switch)4th: Turn lights on.....If cops come after you or somehtign goes wrog you hit your highbeams and they will fully open up even if the fuse is out.

killer write-up... this should be stickied so no more stupid 'how do i do sleepy eye' threads are made haha

ok now i got a question for you electric gurus... does anyone know how to wire these mothers so you can raise/lower a headlight with the light still on?

I ask this because I think it would be pretty sweet to be able to 'wink' one headlight without turning them off... flame away but i think it would be awesome

on second note, dont flame... just let us know how to do it!

to the person who wants to know how to wink just one. My car does. I have no idea how it does it,l there is obviously some serious wiring problems, but it winks one eye when you hit the big headlight switch. I bought the car like that, adn there are no cut wires.

ill have to look into it

^^ im working on doing this right now.Im also trying to figure a way to use the headlight button still and be able to use the stem switch to turn them on. im doing this by cutting the brown wire and trying to figure which wires on the relays control the lights. When im done i should be able to turn the lights on still closed with the stem switch, and raise them with the button, then controll the hight like the brown wire cut mod.Any one know a way? Im getting close i think. Im messing with the relays on both sides of the engine, theres a total of 4 relays for the lights.

each switch does not control one light... ie, the left switch is not for the left light... just both switches need to be on or off.
