So i owned my coupe for 2 weeks, and 440 miles. I notice lately that my car makes a clanking noise in the morning before i go to work and it goes away in 2 minutes after the car warms up. I called Nissan today asking if it's a raditor or engine issue. They told me some of the coupe owners have been complaining about the same thing. It has to do something with the ECM..they will reprogram it for free and the sound should go away. So i encourage everyone to listen for this after they break in their engine...

Hello! I've had my car for a week now... a little over the mileage you described in your post. Whenever I start my car, I hear a little clank sound like as if my bottom is scraping the ground. Is that what you experienced? If so, what was the exact diagnosis for your issue? I just called up the local dealership and they said that they haven't heard of this issue before... so before I go there and spend this whole long ordeal explaining to them the issue, I'd like some advice from you on what to tell them.

Thanks in advance!

When you call...just tell them you hear a rattling noise for about 2 minutes but then it goes away. My dealership told me exactly what it was...ECM, needs to be reprogrammed....takes 3 hours..but noise will go away after.

ive had my coupe for about a month now with 450 miles on it and i have heard that same sound. Mine happens when the engine is cold also and i reverse it out of the garage and then when i pop it into drive i hear that clanking sound as if im scraping the bottom when i hit like 20-25 mph but lasts for merely 10 seconds if that...is that the same issue you were having? and does it harm the engine at all? and what exactly is the ECM?

Hey guys, it is possible what you are hearing is the ABS Module Cycling going on in the car. It is a test /check system that makes this noise everytime you turn your car on after extended periods of sitting. You will hear it everytime you go to put the car in drive. It should only last a second though and not MINUTES! It is normal and it is in your owner's manual. It is not harming the car. I know when I got my car, I heard it at about 130mile on the odo and I took it in immediately to the dealer. Turns out it is something that is completely natural for the technology of the car and the Antibraking system.

Just don't freak out yet.

Good luck.

alright thanks for the heads up. i didnt think it was anything major... does your car still make the noise when the engine is cold? and where did you see it in the owners manual?

It is a noisy engine…. One thing I still get is a faint, very light clater that is proportional to the rpm. The sound only happens when I on the throttle, if I keep it in gear and let off the gas it goes away. I've just dismissed it as normal engine noise seeing how quiet it is.

the start up noise in the cold is not hte ABS self check, because it only has noise on cold start and while the abs self checks everytime you start ur car and MOVE.

I will try to see if teh dealership has any idea what the noise is...not a major problem, but makes my car sound very cheap

that noise could be the heat shield on the exhaust that got recalled.

The noise occurs at start up and low rpms.

the ABS self test is in the owners manual on 5-22; Mine makes this sound. I went and drove another one at the dealership when it first happened and it did the same thing. when moving from reverse to drive you get a brief grinding/popping and then all is normal. mine doesn't do it if i go straight from park to drive, only from reverse to drive.

I've had my AC for about 5 weeks now, and have about 1200 miles on it, but I haven't heard this sound at all in mine.
