i noticed a small hole at the base of each intake runner right where it bolts to the head. all 4 lines combine into one and run to some kind of sensor coneected to my block. Im all for removing things i dont need to run, so if its some silly emmision thing i would like to remove it....Anybody know what it is?

P.S. i have searched for this with no answer before posting

i agree but some devices that make the engine run nicer cold for all the grandma drivers etc can shorten engine life

il have some pics up soon

you ever heard of the CCM? its not something that most people know about, its the comprehensive componet monitering system(spelling?) it takes readings from all of your sensors, and it then looks at the preprogramed maps to determine what kind of changes to make. Nothing the manufacturers put on engines,IF IT IS WORKING CORECTLY, will shorten the life of an engine, it was put there for a reason from the factory......... so consider that before you go taking sensors off or modifying them:thumbup

what about catalitic-converter, EGR or AIV?slowing down exhaust gas or using it to heat my intake charge on cold days? Sounds like it adds wear or takes power to me

the cat is used to clean the emmisions on cars that are out of tune, and/or running poorly, the EGR cools the combustion chamber a few hundred degrees, and the AIV IF WORKING PROPERLY, will help light off the cat and keep it working , adds wear, no, takes power, maybe. the factory didnt have you in mind when they developed it, if they did it would handle like a track car out the box, come with better wheels , and have lots more power am I right?

cats clean the emissions out of cars no matter what, not just out tune and poorly running cars. It was done to cut down on NOX emissions.

the egr is also there to reduce NOX emissions, it cools the combustion chamber, therefore reducing oxides of nitrogen, a perfectly shoich mix of 14.7 is the best for emissions, a little leaner and you get more power, but run the risk of detonation, and on the power steering removal, I hope you switched to a manual rack, cause the rack is dependant on the fluid, and it has a siferent stering ratio and posible different alignment angles, on the abs your on your own, mine didnt come with it so I didnt have a choice

I just wanted to add that chandler makes a very good point. It's true that there are numerous devices, especially on a newer model cars, that seem to hamper performance. Let me give the cat as an example. Just because it's restrictive, does not mean that by removing it, your car will drive better and increase horsepower. All car manufacturers design cars as a whole, thus they are well balanced to meet customer demands. When you start taking parts that don't seem vital to the cars operation (like emmission stuff), the ecu gets thrown out of wack, and may actually result in a decrease in power. That's why many good tuners recommend reprogramming the ecu every time you add a new mod to your car (to get the fuel and ignition right). My suggestion would be to get a reprogrammable ecu (yea, they're NOT cheap) before you start yanking emmission stuff off. Once you get that, and if you live in a area that doesn't have emmission testing, you can take all kinds of stuff off. Until then, you're better off keeping all of the emmission stuff on there. The rules are a little different w/ turbo cars, but unfortunately we're not talking about those here.

i agree completley but , my point is if i remove all the systems it should work with a little reingineering. (which i happen to enjoy)If i need an ecu thats ok, but ill do all my mods b4 i get it so it wont need reporgramed
