Whenever I drive 30min-1hr in 105+degree heat my car would ping and then go into "limp mode" 10-15min's later. My car would only do this when it's hot out, and sometimes after an hr drive around town. My car would always ping first, sort of like a detonation sound, and then it would go into limp mode shortly after. I recently had a coolant flush and it helped a little, and I recently just bought a Nismo tstat that I haven't installed yet. Everything seems to be running fine including the clutch fan. The only thing I noticed when my car does this is that my temp gauge still reads "normal" (1/2 below middle line). Coolant in the overflow is still the same, there is no excess coolant in the bottle so I don't know what's wrong.

The one thing that I'm guessing could be the problem would be either timing, or my engine is just ?heat soaked? from the intense 105+degree weather combined with the heat inside the engine bay?

Yes, by all means do an ECU code readout to check for any fault codes that may be set.

The temperature sensor for the ECU may be malfunctioning, the MAF may be failing or there may be a problem in the TPS.
