What do you think the hp limits of a 96 s13 AT would be. I imagine that a transmisson swap will be required at some point but how much can what I have take before taking on on the trany swap project.

i've heard about ~350hp with a oil cooler, don't quote me on that though.

first of all theres no such thing as 96 s13, and second of all, autos can beat a manual if your car has turbo(less lag) and the transmission is properly built. enough said

^what's your problem? If you want to get technical then yes there is an 96 s13. Its called a 180sx made in 96. Obvioulsy a turbo AT car could beat a N/A MT car. I think he wants to know what the limit is on the stock trans. So having it properly built is kinda irrelevant. ...and whats all this about a turbo having less lag?

well, you got to slam someone without adding anything to this thread, good job.

i will find out how much my kat auto 95 s14 will handle soon with 160k on the engine and trans. we just did a manual swap on my neighbors car so i have another auto trans with 150k on it when mine goes. i have heard that the sr20det and the ka share all the same internals, its just the bell housings that are different, if this is the case, then about 250hp at the wheels or so to be safe, good luck and i will keep you posted on my success or dissaster

ok if i remember correctly 180sx where made from 89 to 94, both fastbacks and coupes after that they made s14s, if you can show me a picture of a 96 180sx then i'll eat my word right up. obioulsy you haven't hit the search both on the right side of the screen. lolz like i said ... if you want bs info go to ziliva

My post? There's no reason to put crap like this thread sucks, When he not only gave no contributing facts, but also wrong info. so ya i think i did do a good job. Now... I would assume that a stock trans can handle more than 250 (dontcha think?). Not with the stock clutch, but we should all know that. If i remember correcty there are some people runnin pretty high numbers on stock auto trans internals.(AMS guys maybe>?) I dunno, not sure if they ever had them rebuilt. Im sure it could be found by searchin around.

there is a 96 S13, only in japan though.

auto trans don't have a clutch(at least ouside of its housing), i've read it can do ~350 with a cooler, AMS(Ivan) used a Q45 auto trans(or z32, which blew up i believe)

BTW, please take a picture of you eating your words, no need to be rude obviously you are the one that hasn't hit the search button. .

Im sorry. what one little brain fart and a hitting the wrong key can do! Mine is a 1993 240 with the stock auto transmission, which I have had since new. I guess the general thought is that about 250 rwhp is about the actual (safe?) limit.

If I can talk the wife (newly pregnat and for the first time) into letting me start this project, I promise I would never feel the need to take the car to a the local strip. that being said, would it be more trouble\cost to build the auto trany, wait till it blows then build, or just do the swap prior to or after going FI. My goal is 300-350 rwhp.

By the way just checked my compression. 175 - 180 - 175 - 170 cold engine and bone dry. Compairing it to others I've found, that seem ok and turboable.

TheOne - we're neighbors, I'd like to check out your car as I have never seen one turboed (and ask a slew of questions about this project).

Did you replace your stock transmission cooler or did you run the Hayden in series with the stock cooler? I'm thinking of running one, because I can feel the stock one lose power after a few mild pulls....

If you want a real fast 1/4 car you go with an auto, if you just want a fun car that's quick you go with a manual. If anyone in socal wants to just see how fast an auto is come race me

HA!

When I first read your reply, I was thinking, 'sure, why not see who's auto is faster?' Then I read your sig, and the wiser part of my brain decided it wouldn't be a close race....

I'd love to check your car out though.... If you're up for driving, there is a meet tomorrow here in San Diego. I'm probably going, you can read more about it here: zerothread/242262
