How do I tell if my car has a Limited Slip diff? Sorry if this is a repeat.

Only way it would be there from the factory is if you had ABS (and usually on a hatch it would have HICAS as well). The Diff would have an orange sticker if it was all original. Most likely you do not, unless it was swapped in by someone else.

Supposedly for the VLSD, if you jack up the rear, and spin one wheel the other one will spin the same way if it is VLSD.

Thanks, that is what I thought...no LSD. It doesn't have ABS either...which is fine by me. I guess I'll put that on my wish list. Thanks again.

Either way...no ABS...so no LSD.

I would double check bud, Mine never had abs and has a limited slip. Just light those tires up and see how many stripes you leave :chuckle:

If sitting straight an open diff can still turn both tires.

Easiest way to tell OEM Open vs OEM VLSD would be to look at the diff.

VLSD has a bigger back cover.

You said earlier it would have an orange sticker if it was factory lsd. Where might that be located?

jack the car up and spin one wheel by hand. if the other wheel spins the same direction you have a lsd. stickers can fall off.

Yeah, most stickers have probably been long gone.

But again without ABS it wouldn't have been a factory option, another owner would have had to put it in. So its doubtful.

Another option is jack the rear end up and spin one of the tires by hand and is the other side spins the same way u got LSD,..

That "jack it up and spin the wheel" thing is hit and miss. If you leave the trans in neutral, depending on the conditions of various bearings in the drivetrain, both rear wheels might spin the same way. So if you do the test, make sure its in gear. With an open diff, the rear wheels will definitely spin opposite directions, and it''ll be pretty easy to spin them. With a Nissan VLSD, if its cold and/or worn out, you might still be able to spin one wheel and have the other spin the opposite direction, it'll just take more effort to spin them. This is because the viscous coupling doesn't reach full lockup until there's torque applied and the fluid heats up. Were still agreed that most likely you don't have an lsd, but this is the proper explanation of how to test for it ;)

or you could just go and light them up in a brake stand :chuckle: that'll tell you for sure...
