Just bought a 2008 Versa 1.8 S HB. Among the "dealer-added equipment & services" it has LIMITED PRODUCTION $1695. Of course I should have asked the dealer what that means but I did not. Anyone know? Is it something like, "thank you for giving us $1695 for nothing!"?BTW, it is Magnetic Gray and soooo roomy inside.

does it have the sport package? maybe they listed that as "limited-production". unless of course the sport is only run on SLs, then you've been duped.

I would give Nissan a call, to see if such a thing is real! Then when you talk to the Dealer you know what is going on.It sounds a Little Fugazy to me.

Quite fugazy!I don't have the Sport Package. This morning I emailed the dealer (actually the owner to whom I was originally referred by BJ's auto buying service).

Thanks all.

$1695... yeesh... He better cough up SOMETHING good for that. $1695 would buy 17" rims, new TPMS sensors, and good tires, all mounted balanced and warrantied.

I am heavily into the auto industry, and do not appreciate it when people are taken advantage of. I have a contact in the Marketing Division at Nissan Corporate in Tennessee. I am going to be asking him about this "FISHY" deal they got you wrapped up in. I am not saying that they didnt make any, I just want to make sure.I will let you know as soon as I find out, I will post it here!

Caveat emptor- "Let the buyer beware."

All buyers should put a little effort into some minimal research before any purchase. I do not fully blame the dealers for these practices. The buyer needs to be more responsible in their own actions.

Technically, all vehicles are "limited production," I mean, you can only make so many vehicles for one model year! Remember all those "Limited Edition" Sentras? I had one, and you know, it really was limited... to about 95 MPH downhill with a tail wind.

"dealer-added equipment & services"

Bold graphics, wheel covers, undercoating, and other non substantial add ons. And dealers wonder why they have the reputation that they do.

Shady dealers are far too common. Their job is to sell cars at the highest possible price, and we as consumers want to buy them at lowest possible price. Sometimes it's below invoice, other times it's above MSRP. There is no law that says what the purchase price must be.

I don't see anything illegal in the sale as a whole. Daversad agreed to give MSRP+1695 to the dealer in exchange for a Versa. You might be able to contend that Daversad received no equipment and services from the dealer for the $1695, but that is a real stretch.

Without making you feel bad, I think you got a bum deal and should be bothering the dealer about this fee in the hopes of getting it refunded. It may be hard to get any satisfaction after the fact though. Good luck.

"Don't Get Taken Every Time" is THE book to read on how to buy a car and what to expect from shady dealers.

http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Get...r=8-2

One of the additional shady fees mentioned in this book is ADP (Additional Dealer Prrofit). Yes, they are that arrogant to use an acronym like that. Basically, it's just an added fee to try and get you negotiating down from a high price rather than up from the dealers truee invoice cost. It sounds like that was basically the fee you got stuck with.

Thank you all for replies. It certainly was my responsibility to read the sticker thoroughly. I spoke with a Nissan guy yesterday. He could not explain what "Limited Production" was but said I was not charged for it. If that is true then I paid $1152 over invoice. BTW, I supposedly got good price because I used the car buying service of a warehouse chain which claims, I believe, to get you deals of around $400 over invoice. I have emailed the dealership owner as follow-up and will keep you all posted.

hallgw, thanks for your effort.

Sometimes it's best to not look up any information after the deal is done. For the most part you can't do anything about it, and will only make yourself unhappy. Buying a new car should be a great feeling!

I used same said warehouse chain's buying service to get mine. My pre-rebate price was $250 above invoice, so I ended up getting the car for $250 below invoice (due to a $500 rebate). The amount of money over invoice they charge, even under the warehouse, depends on the model. However, it should ALWAYS be below MSRP.

If it wasn't, said chain would like to know. Dealers who don't follow the rules can damage their reputation, and said warehouse chain will drop said dealership from their network like a hot potato. And they can never be reinstated. (I know this because I do some work at their HQ, and I've seen a lot of the rules that vendors must abide by at all times)

What's the benefit of a buying service? I haven't really heard about people using one except in this thread.

Ease of use and the potential of getting a better deal than you might normally be able to negotiate.

My negotiation phase lasted 5 minutes... and consisted of me handing the dealer my Costco card to photocopy. They then came back with the Costco price. A pretty significant discount off of MSRP... I didn't feel the need to try to haggle any more.

I also didn't get GAP insurance because I paid a significant enough down payment that GAP would be useless, and I declined the extended warranty (though they gave me their Silver or Gold 40k mile plan for free, anyway, after the sale)
