Limited 2009 inventory?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

My wife and I narrowed our decision for a new car to an EX35 but when we went to one of the local dealership, they only had 1 on the lot. I checked the new car inventories of several other local Infiniti dealerships and was surprised to see they all only had 1-2 cars on the lot. What's going on with the 2009 inventory???? Is it just my area (N. VA), are they in that much demand, or is Infiniti slowing down production (maybe to make room for 2010)??? Anyone else having trouble find EX35's in dealerships?

My 09 EX was like finding a needle in a haystack. I had to go to Dallas and 2 of the 3 dealerships had none. One of them was getting 2 in and they were already spoken for before they even arrived. Finally, at the third dealership they had another branch located in Houston that had one that fit my description. It had about 90% of the features that I wanted and I had to compromise on the color. This is what I could find without going outside of Texas. I researched to see why there are so few EX's and found that Infiniti is only sending 30,000 per year to the U.S. I think that they are not having any issues in selling that amount of volume since they rarely can be found at a dealership. Personally, I think that it is worth the search because I like having one of only a handful of EX's that is in my city. There is something to be said for exclusivity. Good luck with your search and purchase!

There are not many in VA. If you look over in Maryland, you might find a few dealerships with some in stock. Can't answer the supply question. I purchased a 2008 about a month ago now from Chantilly. They had a couple of 2009s on the lot at the time.

Might have to drive over to MD to find the one you want.

JBA Infiniti in Elicott City is where I got mine...and I'd recommend them.

In Northern California, Dealers seem to be selling them pretty fast. The dealer I went to had 8 in July, they now have 2. Some dealers in the area are sold out. They all had a few but they seem to be moving. I think Infiniti is keeping supply low, my bet is that the currant average sale price on EX35's is not very profitable, That's just my guess. this is really good for those who own one. Resale will be better and it's nice to have a special vehicle.

I am from Va as well and recently purchased a 2009 EX 35 Journey and had the same problem as you are having now. I search for months to find the right interior and exterior colors with the right options. I finally stumbled upon one shortly after it was delivered to the dealer. I posed the original question to several dealership and this is what they said. Infiniti has cut back on production for the 2009 due to the economy. They do not want a lot of cars siting on their lots only to get hit with heavy taxes at the end of the year. So you are libal to only fine 1 or 2 EX models at each dealership until things pick up. But if you know exactly what you want and your willing to pay have a dealer find it for you.

It seems as though dealers have really lowered their inventories due to the economy, and the 2010 EX35 is going to be on sale very soon.

If baffles me why anyone would wonder why there is limited 2009 EX's available. Here are the facts:

The EX35 is not selling.. so why would they make more cars of something that is not selling? I've been trying to sell my brand-spanking new 2008 EX35 I just bought back in January and have not had even a single serious inquiry on it. And that's trying to sell it for over $10k less than what I paid!

I take it to the dealer for a trade in, and they want only $28k for a fully-loaded shiny new 2008 EX, under 10k miles, nothing wrong with it EX35 with tech package that I paid over 40k for just a few months before. Unbelievable! But when I go to sell it myself, I find there are, indeed, NO BUYERS. I can't even negotiate a price because there's no one out there to negotiate with! LOL

If you don't believe me, go on Ebay and look at the "completed sales" of the Ex35 and see none has completed over reserve. Go on autotrader and there are over 200 EX35's out there for you to choose from at rock-bottom prices.. why in the world would anyone go to Infiniti and pay $10k more is beyond me. But anyway, now you know. I just wish I had known before I got mine.

btw, mine is still for sale if anyone is interested. =) And I'm in Virginia and trust me, you'd not be disappointed with it, it looks and drives great, in perfect condition.

With all due respect, I disagree with your view of the EX35 and sales. The reason anyone would be having a problem selling a used EX35 for a price anywhere close to the original sales price is the fact that dealers are discounting new 09's. I purchased my new 09 with a MSRP of a little over 41 grand for a little over 34 grand, brand new. In my view a used one would need to be priced around 28 or 29 grand to compete. At the most. Dealers in Northern California have been selling new EX35's, I have been watching them, they are selling, the overall problem is that they are not selling near MSRP and this is due to the car being designed for a nich market and the economy. I work with the auto industry, their are more cars than not, suffering right now, big discounts on new vehicles are more normal than not and this hurts used prices. I am a big believer, you don't buy a vehicle as a investment, you buy what you like and drive it for a lot of years, I keept my last Infiniti for 9 years, you really don't worry about the re-sale value at that point. If you keep a car for a year or less, you can expect to loose your pants, shirt and everything else, that is how the system works, always has. Good luck to you.

Autotrader.com shows 183 used EX35's nationwide. A little over 300 with new and Used. Not a huge number for a mass produced vehicle. A lot less than BMW 3's, as a example. I do agree with your desire to sell, my experience shows me that whan A person wants to get rid of a vehicle, real bad, they should just do it, don't be mad at the car, just move on. You will never get more from your car than today, every week the bluebook comes out and the number generally go down, that's how it works with cars. They are no investment. Best of luckScott

Exactly, it was hard to swallow a 19K loss after 3 years of GM sports car ownership. Yet I knew the warranty was expiring, the GM dealer service sucked, and the quality of the car was marginal. So when the time comes just do it and move on. If I would have waited 60 more days the trade-in value of the Vette would have dropped another 2K.

I am in the same boat right now but the dealers are willing to find me one. Tidewater color would have been my #1 choice but Alexandria Infiniti just ordered Blue Slate. They had Scarlet Silver (which looks Gold/Tan to me) with Premium and Navigation. I have been talking to all the MD dealers and they have alittle bit more to choose from, but not much! Keep posting on here, curious how you are doing with price since we are looking same places at the same time.

I would be interested but I am getting quotes for around 33k nearly fully loaded- minus Tech but includes Premium and Nav brand new. I don't believe you would be able to sell for over 30k.

I read that 30,000 cars per year was Infiniti's original goal. The EX35 has not been selling that well.

2009 CYTD - 5,296 Cars, -41.2% CYTD2008 CYTD - 9,010 Cars

That's why they are a rare site to see.

I also heard from multiple dealers that they had stopped production because of the economy and so there hasn't been many cars available but they have jump started production and more 2009 will be available well into 2010. Someone had posted that the 2010s would be available in the Fall, and apparently that is not true and it will be well into 2010 before we see them

So, this poses the question- should I be concerned in buying this car?

If the EX fits your needs and you like the car, I would say, buy it. The EX35 fits a small market, it is not designed for large families, it really is a vehicle unlike any other. It fit our needs, we are empty nesters that wanted performance, style and comfort, we also wanted some utility. The EX was perfect for us. I would rather have a low production vehicle than a high production vehicle. The last time I checked, the EX was outselling the M and the FX, it is not a bad selling vehicle. One example of why I prefer a lower production vehicle is the BMW 3 series. A great car, the problem is high production, the result is very low resale prices, I looked at a 9,000 mile used 2008 328i for 26 grand. In my opionion the EX35 is a much better vehicle. Again, if the EX fits your needs, buy it, you will love it.

I appreciate your response. My husband and I don't have children...yet. In the next couple of years that may change, but I don't think this car will inhibit us with having a small child in the back- they don't need that much leg room! LOL

But I agree, I looked at larger, luxury used vehicles as well, and the value of what you get seems unparalled. I was really debating on the Acura RDX, but the interior really is not luxurious in comparison to my TL that I am giving up.

Infiniti annouced the 2010 EX35 today. I noticed several local dealers, that had run down to 1 or 2 EX's now have 4 or 5 2009's. My bet is they will continue discounting the 2009's and hold the prices on the 2010 a little more. Interesting, the 2009 run was only about 4 months and they really did not change that much for 2010. My only guess, they think consumers will pay a little more for a 2010, they might be right?
