The RB20 Build

So, this is my build on my car, I got a POS 1995 240sx but it had some good stuff on it.
Like a clean as crap KA24de that ran amazing with 130k miles
VLSD, Megan street coil's, 5-speed
The shell was ruined, was just like...wow...you'll see.
I still enjoyed it though, even though it didn't have a title since I got screwed on it :/

here's some pics of it.

Me being dumb lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ9MWijBJoc

So that's that...
So not being able to daily drive it (looks and cops would pull me over lol..)
But this was my first car I ever drifted (yes, in the streets...tracks weren't as available when I bought it, and streetwise drift was only starting out)
So I decided I needed to buy another shell and put my stuff onto it, kinda needed it since this one had so much rust.
So I ended up finding this shell for $400
It had everything, even an engine that just needed timing work (I sold the engine though, had a running one)
Image

Image

Image

Image
The entire interior was even there :)
Sucks it was blue though, I later used some Black interior parts I had from my shell and painted the Dash black, worked out great.

So I did the swap, Ended up pretty nice :)
No pics of that though, a couple of vids though :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzbA37QxhuA
No exhaust on it, some flames XD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcDnz3UeVlc
After I put on my custom 3' exhaust
The front end wasnt the prettyest thing though, needed quite some work
I'm a freak about having my body panels match up lol
Image
So after taking off the bumper support and bumper retainer off my other shell, and some tweaking (the shell had been backed into before, that's why the front sagged)
Here's how it looked after I messed with it :)
Image

And what was left of the car I parted out
Image

Image

Image

So I daily drove it like this for a while, steelies and gay front rims....I'm a young kid and didn't have a job and got some money from parting out stuff.
Took it to a few drifting event's and burnt some rubber haha

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzvuTgQFUHE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZ4m5cinKoQ

And was testing out my friends sportmaxx's

Image

So took it to a few drifting events
My first was a fail haha
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AixKlhnoNng

Then took it to a practice event, barrowed someones wheels for the front to help with some grip :)
Image
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU2Z1-PpztE

Drove it like that as a daily, then got a job, God Blessed me so much with this already, so greatful and when I got a job, I was able to do so much more!
I got some Kouki taillight for $80, was so happy!
Bought an SE Lip
And some P45r's :)
Image

Image

Image
Me and my Buddy, that's an RB20 S13 hatch, that engine is what inspired this entire RB20 build :)
Added some fogs hehe
Image
Practiced everywhere I could, had enough power to teach me to control, so I stuck to rainy days when I wanted to feel like I had 'power' haha
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgLQmxuh24s

Drove like this and was happy...
Then I wanted power, I saved up and decided to go KA-T (Big mistake later)
Got a T25 with bigger injectors and a crappy tune...but it ran
Here's first time starting her, ended up being a 3 month build
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFCkprqP69M

Some first pics of her after I started driving it turbo
Had a warped oil pan, bad rear main seal, and a crappy clutch :/
Image

Image

Image
Had those issues fixed but my injectors always gave me issues.....
So one day...when I gave it gas on the highway, it blew the rings on pistons 2 and 4....
So decided to rebild the pistons and sell the engine to start my RB20 build...
messing with the KA was a pain, so i decided that going RB was a good way..

Started the work O__O
This is where I am today,

Took the KA24 apart, and going to replace the pistons and rings with new one.
so far what I done with the engine, probably going to wait till the RB swap is done before I finish up the rebuild of the KA
Image

Image
She's clean
Image
Image

So then I started prepping my car for the RB
Starting out with lowering the car, so I needed to hide the wiring harness....again...
Image
That should do.
Shot of my interior...nothing special
Image

So I started prepping the engine bay
Image
Image
She's really nasty lol
Image
During cleaning her up
That's the degreaser on the frame rail
Image
Started the scrubbing and sanding
Image
Image
All sanded down
Here's the Rain after it was sanded down
Image

Then we taped up, and primer time!
Image
All Primered!!
Image
Image

And This Saturday, Painted it!
Image
Image

So this is where I am!
Waiting for the RB to come in this week :))
The going to clean it up, paint it, and start slapping it into the s14!! hehe

I will keep this updated, I'm hoping to finish this project in a few weeks :)

If your looking for a forward facing intake manifold CarlH in the RB section has his RIPPS intake manifold for sale. it looks like this but I think his is painted blk? I didn't paint mine when I bought it.

That's a nice manifold, How much does he charge for those?

UPDATE:
Okay, so I got the engine bay put together and all the parts degreased and cleaned!
So now, just waiting for the RB to get here Friday (Shipped out late from Zerolift)

Oh...and Zilvia.net sucks!
They closed my thread because they said it's not a build thread (How is this not a build thread?) and because I posted a video they didn't want. :/

I'm not sure how much he is selling it for, he doesn't make them. A company called RIPPS in NZ makes them, I paid like $1100 back in 04 for mine and I got mine after him. He built a RB30 with a RB25 head now and the manifold isn't working too well for him. I wouldn't even bother posting on Zilvia it's a BBS board filled with 12 year old kids who like to run there mouths about stupid crap they think is right.

Bahaha, It's cause you're not dropping over a grand a week on your car.
I consider it a build though. You're progressing, and that's building ;D
Looking good too. Glad to see you got the new shell and made it a beaut.

UPDATE:
Got the RB from Zerolift Autolab
The engine is clean, and apparently got a light flywheel and good clutch
transmission is very clean
Buuuuutttt.....(Yes, there's always a but) the MAF is missing, and my 'uncut' harness...well trust me...it's chopped up!!
Going to call them this Monday to get them to ship me a new harness and get me my promised MAF...Ugh...this is off to a bad start lol

UPDATE:
Okay, took off the valve cover...so, it's pretty clean in there....a little too clean...
The spark plugs are corroded and when I took them out they seemed to have water on them :/
Called ZeroLift and they said no one is there at the moment so that they will call me back, I'm gonna call them again really soon, cause this is BS.... leak down tested my a**....
...if they screwed me over, I'm not an easy person to deal with, I WILL drive to Ohio (have friends there too...) and I will pay them a visit...no one delays my build! lol XDD
But this is crap

UPDATE:
Okay, so here are the promised pics of the engine and now it's installed.
Image
Image
The Rebuilt KA waiting to be sold
Image
On Standby
Image

So now it's all installed and the mounts are pretty good.
Fit from the first try, now gotta connect one of my intercooler hoses and the heater hoses to the firewall
Image
Image
Image

So the front end fit's quite great, and I am able to have an intercooler and my fog lights haha
Image
Image

Okay, so now the issue, the turbo elbow that goes to my down pipe...well that isn't fitting.
I have a grinded down one, but it doesn't work! it still hits my steering colum quite a bit :(
If it doesn't work, I'm thining of putting a spacer on the left engine mount :/
Any input on this would help, I will try to get some pics of how much the turbo elbow is off, I need my exhaust, I don't like straight pipes or open down pipes -__-

I got a whole kit when I borrowed mine.

http://www.buy.com/prod/astro-pneumatic ... 38893.html

thats the kit I used.
[/quote]

Yeah, I was going to, but this puller was heavy duty and I doubted it would break, so it got it off easily, next time I shall know what kind of stuff to get lol

UPDATE:
Okay...so the pully is off.

Image

Image

Okay, so took off the belt and then the water pump...OMG
I have never seen an engine engulfed in this crap...anyone know what it is?
It looks and feels like mud :/
Or Rust...

Image

Image

Cleaned all of that up, so now I'm waiting for the one I ordered, if it won't get shipped by tomorrow then I'm going to barrow one locally :)
Shout out to Carl H who's always there when I need some help! :)

Here's how she sits as right now

UPDATE:
Okay, so the car runs great and the over heating is outa the way.
My friend Mike helped me out to clean out the cooling system and it seems that the system has no more rust, water is coming out clean :)
Temp is staying cool and I should be getting Mikes Koyo rad and dual fan setup :)

So, apparently why the car was sluggish was because of a Knock sensor harness (or 2 wires lol)
Carl H once again pointed that out to me and I got a knock sensor harness from em'
So car pulls great and burns rubber, so now gotta start hitting events xD

Vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3ifI4dVEIQ

Here's how it ran while I was trying to figure out why the timing was bad (which was the fact that the knock sensors weren't plugged in)
Vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNmQu7z_pI8

Today, while doing the finial flush after the 6 hour's of driving the car with the cleaning chemicals in the cooling system, I found out that injector 4 took a poop and needs new rings....
W/e, ordered some SOHC KA24E rings from NAPA auto parts and they should be here tomorrow.
So will install those and clean up some wiring on the car, and finish the cooling system flush and put some 50/50 anti-freeze in there :)

UPDATE:
Great...
So I was changing out the radiator for a Mishimoto...and that's when I noticed a lot of "dust" that looked like hair...weird stuff...
So went ahead and took off the cam cover.....crap..my engine is eating my timing belt like crazy. :/
Ordered a new belt but gotta find out why it did this in the first place.
Any idea's anyone?

Your prob missing a spacer for the timing belt. It goes on around the by the crank pulley. That would be my guess, it's suppose to keep the belt from walking. Glad to see you got it running, now get some bigger injectors and a PT5862 on that baby and break 400hp.

Hmm, I had the spacer on there, it goes on before the harmonic balancer right?
Is there a wrong way to put it on?

So Precision turbo makes good turbo's?
And I'm planning on using NisTune for the tuning, would that be good for breaking 400? lol

That turbo should get 400hp easy. I'm going to step down to that turbo when I get some money myself. I have the Precision SC61 on my RB20 but it's a big yestertech turbo. The 5862 is a billet wheel turbo way lighter wheel than on my SC61.

Yeah thats the spacer I'm talking about. Behind the pulley. Hmmm must be something else, did u check the fsm to see if u left something out? I'm running nistune too on my RB20.

Yeah i'll check the FSM
And do you know how tight the belt should be? would this happen from putting too much tension on the belt by tightening the tensioner pulley?

Take it from me, i have a factory white bay, it is been the biggest pain trying to keep clean even after using De-greaser and wire brushes its just impossible to keep clean. :bs:

Great work so far on the build cant wait to see more. :bigthumb:

haha, Yeah...it's pretty dirty right now...
But I enjoy it, it's different and it goes with the color of the car.
If I pull the engine I might redo it a diff color for w/e reason, but for now, I'm happy with it and I'm not going for a show car, so a little dirt there and here won't bother me :)
