Ok so I was wandering has anyone tried the lightweight flywheels that are on the market for the Rb20det? This is a Mod I am considering making when I replace the clutch.

If you have input on your experience it would be greatly appreciated.

i have a nismo lightweight fly on my RB25, it came that way though i never had a stocker installed but from previous experience with other engines its a modification worth doing IMO... just dont get crazy and go to light

Im running a lightweight steel on my RB26 and im really happy with it. It had an aluminum in it when i got the motor. Drives much nicer then the aluminum did. I had a serious clutch issue so i had to go in there anyway. When i got the transmission off someone had resurfaced the aluminum flywheel instead of replacing the friction surface which was causing further travel on the TOB.

What would you consider to be too light? I have seen quite a few that are in the neighborhood of 12lbs...

This is going to be for a drift car.

if you plan on drag racing stay away from the lightweight flywheels unless your going with a multi disc clutch, but on a single clutch disc setup i personally prefer the stock flywheel. but if you choose to go with a lightweight flywheel stay away from fidanza cause the starter ring gears on those like to break when used for long term use, try to go with a lightweight steel flywheel like a spec, act, etc.

I think my steel weighs in at 12lbs. Aluminum at about 10 lbs. I would probably say you would be best off with steel IMO..

hey hans whats the problem with running a lightweight in drag racing...i have been doing it for years with both my KA and my RB now...i run the spec stage 4 unsprung with lightened flywheel and lightened pressure plate...i do 5k launches and dont have a problem...i love the spec stuff...
