So I'm getting ready to do my five speed swap in my s14. Finally. It's a stock ka but I will be going ka-t in the near future. Nothing crazy. Looking to make about 200rwhp. I'm trying to choose my clutch/flywheel combo with that in mind. So I had some questions about flywheels first of all. The ONLY type of competitive driving that I do is drag racing. (Yes on a track) I just do it for fun about twice a month during the summer. I have never driven a car with a lightened flywheel. I'm interested in comparisons between oem and lightweight flywheels. Advantages and disadvantages for drag racing/daily driving duties. If it's going to make my car a little faster at the strip awesome, but if it's going to stall at every light because of less rotating mass, not cool. I'm looking at this setup - Fidanza flywheel and an exedy stage 2 clutch. Opinions?

I have a lightened flywheel and an Exedy stage two clutch for mine as well although I haven't installed it yet . After talking to the guys at 240sxmotoring that was the setup they recommended for me although I will be road course racing my car. I had the same setup in my brand H track car and loved it. I had better throttle response and a stiffer clutch pedal. The only advice I can give you is to be careful when selecting the weight of the flywheel. I have been told that you don't want to use too light of a flywheel on a boosted car because you can run into problems with drop in boost pressure when shifting because the RPM's drop much faster but that will depend on what motor set up you are running. I am sure that there are individuals on here that have run similar setups that can give you more detailed information.

Hmm well specifically for drag racing, would I be better off using a lightweight flywheel or a resurfaced oem?

Being that I don't drag race I don't really have an educated answer for you, I believe that it would depend on your skill level is with drag racing, for example, do you power shift through the gears or do you still shift with letting off the gas ? Having a lightened flywheel will allow your motor to spin up RPM's faster then a stock one but I don't know anyone that has used the Fidanza flywheel in a drag race application. I am sure there is someone else on here that would be able to answer that question.

Nah I'm not powershifting. How are the lightweight flywheels for daily driving? I've heard that they can lead to stalling problems on decel.

I never had a problem with mine for daily driving, it did take some getting used to though. You will notice that the RPM's drop faster and I found that there was less drag when downshifting to cut speed, this caused me to use my brakes more at first until I got used to it. I had the setup on my turbo Civic, I thought it improved boost response vs. using stock flywheel and clutch, although I had 94K miles on my clutch and flywheel when I did the swap.
