I was wanting to know the pros and cons of using a lightweight flywheel on a NA KA motor. I'm doing autocross but I would like to keep the KA motor and just improve it's capabiaties.

I have a fidanza flywheel. It allows the engine to rev a little faster, launches are better, so is handling. It'll be perfect for autocross. Unless you plan on swapping out the clutch anytime soon I'd wait on doing it. Its just a lot of work for a little performance gain IMO.

I'm trying to figure out if I want one. Is it worth the 400 bux? I want just straight line peformance, but I also want it to be really drivable, and not get bad gas mileage.

David.

the launch with the fan mod and flywheel is awesome compared to stock with my s13, but the flywheel is very noticable by its self. Like it was said earlier, i waited till my stock clutch was slipping to replace the flywheel but i got a crappy clutch. DONT BUY ACT!!! please they dont last long at all. Mine crapped out after 10,000 miles and burned the crap out of my pressure plate, and i dont drive crazy like that either.

oh and btw... gas mileage is fine. there might even be an improvement.

Whered u get that Fidanza flywheel and for how much? Will it work on the SOHC? When i change my rear main seal later this month, im seriously considering a flywheel.

I don't think the fidanza unit we have will work with the KA24E. I'm not sure that they make them. I haven't seen one at least. You can get your stock one lightened but you'll probably have a bit of downtime depending on who does it for you. I don't know if I'd recommend doing that since it may be detrimental to the flywheel's strength. So all I can say is look around. By the way JNM, that looks like a mean set up you have there.

I forgot to mention... going up steep hills sucks. You definitely need to downshift. So if you're driving on hilly roads your gas mileage might suck. Otherwise it's improved.

I thought the flywheel will work for the SOHC, I mean they can all use the same transmission, so why not the same flywheel?

The descriptions that I see for the flywheel are for 91-98 DOHC. I forgot to add that mine costed $319 through enjuku but there's a guy selling them on ebay. If you offer him $300 shipped he will probably sell it to you. That's what he offered me but I had already bought mine.

I just ordered a ACT street/strip clutch its the Puck suposed to handle 350hp/torque. I really hope its not the same one you got email me and warn me if it is.

i put in a fidanza when i replaced my clutch. i did notice that the motor winds up faster. i also removed the clutch fans as well.

some will say that you lose a little bottom end because you lose that rotational mass which helps torque.

i recommed it combined with a good clutch and a short shifter, it doesn't get much better.

from what i was told but alot of people who've done it.. you lose low end torque from the lack of weight but you gain a lil bit more top end.. but for 400 its not worth it imo unless your turboed and you want a quicker spool

Well I got both of them from VIS racing. but just because it looks good DONT BUY FROM VIS!!! they suck.

I bought a whole kit front, sides, and rear. took about 3 weeks for the front bumper to get here. another 3 weeks for the side skirts. So I decided to go ahead and put the front and sides on before the rear arrived..... but the body shop said it wouldnt fit right. So I called and asked for my money back and they dont give refunds after 7 days. So I canceled the rear bumper but was stuck with the rest. If I would have waited even longer for the rear to arrive I would have been stuck with it all. Since I was stuck with them I decided to try to put it on my self. BIG PAIN had to cut the fenders and the body kit to get it to fit!!

DONT BUY VIS RACING BODY KITS!!!

Ohh. I thought you were talking about the SIDE scoops on my SIDE SKIRTS. that makes more since. I thought you were saying the side skirts had something to do with me having to cut my front fenders and threw me off. Well most people I've talked to that have kits dont have to cut up their factory parts to get the body kits to mount up. And everyone I've talked to has had problems with VIS so Im definately not satisfied.

Just have your stock flywheel shaved and lightend down to say 14 lbs from 18. I think a 14 lb fly wheel will be nice ona KA verses the 11 :D

Or you can have whats called a 2 stage resurface which is where the shave the sides off that aren't used on the flywheel but resurface the area of the flywheel that the clutch will use.

I ask the folks around here about that^^. They told me to buy a real lightweight flywheel , because if you stress a lightened stock wheel it could crack and blow up. I don't even what to take the chance. JWT makes a nice one 4 $425. The ring gear and heat sheild are replacable. That is the route I'm going. Just save. It is better to be safe than missing a leg. J/k!!!

do you have to get a new friction surface each time you change the clutch? or can you reuse it?
