Most everyone should know about the lightweight crank pulley that has been rumored for a long time know.. Well, the final product is done.. Since Mike (blackbirdVQ) is selling his Q very soon, he decided to give me the crank pulley to test on my Q... Sounds good to me!!

To shorten the babbling, this thread will be for the install, testing and such on my Q...

Here is the gallery to the crank pulley pictures... Check it for updates.. http://q45.org/gallery/v/Q45+Crank+Pulley/

Looks to be of reasonable quality, and looks pretty sharp.. Appears to be CNC machined... The water pump pulley will be available as well, but i didnt get it since it will not matter for the purpose of testing...

The only thing I am concerned about for purposes of testing on ym Q is it was designed for a standard Q45, and my Q, due to HICAS has a wider belt for the PS and water pump.. I am not concerned about having the smaller belt on the wider pulley because there are some cars that come like that stock... SO LONG as it lines up properly...

I should be getting the pulley later today or tomorrow. From what Ive heard, it is really light... heck, the entire package weighs only 4lbs!!

You will get my unbiased and objective review on this modify, since Im in it for nothing except my time (which is almost worthless).. I am going to try and get a before and after dyno done, however WORST CASE scenario I will use a Gtech pro, it may not be precise, but it should be accurate enough to reflect any changes......

Please do the dyno run! It will be very cool if the standard at Nico is before and after results. If people have proof of the benefits of a mod then many more people will do it. I'm thinking of dynoing my 97 with its sticking fan clutch and then disconnected the fan (simulating an electric fan conversion) to see what kind of H/P can be gained.

UPDATE: Just got the crank pulley in tonight.. This thing looks pretty cool, but i like that you wouldnt be able to tell that its anything special, looks 90% stock... I picked up a belt and will be installing it later..... Sounds promising thus far.....

This unit weighs approx 2-3 lbs.

Man oh man do I miss those days! I didn't have much $$$ but I had a lot more fun.

My only concern with this mod is the extra vibrations. Remember that they call the crank pulley a "harmonic balancer" for a reason. There's a pretty big peice of rubber(?) in there that seems to tuned to each car to take care of balance issues...

That said, I'm really interested to see how this works out!

What calibration documentation will accompany the ElWessoButtDynO readings? Will there be charts? Graphs? etc?

Sorry guys, We'll have to rely on the videos and stop watch... no actual dyno, as theres none that are reasonably close to me (closest is over 60 miles away!!!!!)

EDIT: I wont be getting the car running tonite like planned because O'Reilly's had the wrong belt part number listed... Was about an inch longer than it should have been..... If I cant find one locally I will get one from Joe and will have it on monday...

I have driven the car all day with this thing in it, and first off, let me give you the data...

First off, i took a video of 0-60 and 50-80 for comparison.. I have those videos, and I will behosting them shortly.. Temperatures were roughly the same, within 5 degrees, and the tests were done on the same road with roughly the same amount of gas..

I used the same video, but timed the same run 5 times, and dropped the higest and the lowest and averaged the other 3. * denotes being dropped

0-60 times, stock7.53*7.257.477.19*7.40AVERAGE: 7.37

50-80 times, stock5.90*5.916.03*6.006.00AVERAGE: 5.97

0-60 times, with pulley7.036.94*7.15*7.15*7.13AVERAGE:7.08

50-80 times, with pulley6.106.00*6.126.096.19*AVERAGE: 6.10

SO, basically there are SO many variables that make these these numbers almost this different on 2-3-4 seperate runs, that you can hardly consider the oh so slight difference in time really worth anything. Probably easy to say its less than 10HP, probably closer to 5HP, that was gained...

To add to this, the crank seems to move around a lot more than it did with the stock pulley... So much, that its already eaten into my AC belt. It does seem to idle a little smoother for some reason, but definitely you can notice it... IN the videos i took you can barely tell the crank pulley moves around, with the other pulley its VERY noticeable.....

I think this post speaks for itself on my overall opinion.
