Lights dim over 3K RPM?

For some reason iv been having this problem with my friends KA-T, it idles fine but once you rev it up above 2500-3000 area the lights will dim down and all the lights inside the car as well. and we tried checking out different things on the car

Tested the alternator they said it was fine, changed out the starter just in case(it was going anyways)

We also bypassed his SCI box and unplugged his gauges, AVCR, wideband ect. nothing seems to make a difference.

The problem started out of nowhere he was getting on it then it started running like crap. when the lights dim down i believe it was charging in the range of 9-10 which is extremely low.

Has anyone had this problem already? i didnt know if it had an external regulator on the alternator or not. anything would help!

Well probably either the alternator is going, the belt isnt tight enough, or perhaps the power/ground wires arent tight enough, or the harness plug is loose.

the belt is tight, i had the local parts store check the alternator. i dont know if they check it at higher RPM with there machine but we might try changing that out completely. all wires are secure, everything seems to be on fine. but i think we have another one we will try.

any other suggestions?

Sounds like a bad alternator to me. (Upgrade it to a Nissan Quest 110 amp alternator if you're going to have to replace it.)

might also want to test the battery.

i would say alternator
