I have a 93 240sx that has had a bad positive terminal on the battery and have had to jump it occassionally. Thinking this was the problem, I tried jumping it. It started but would die when the jumper cables were removed.

Charged the battery and bought a new alternator. Now the car will only start and run until the car uses up the battery's reserve. None of the accessories seem to work right either. Lights don't turn on until you rev the engine after startup and then the wipers turn on for a few seconds. When you push on the brake, the radio shuts off for a split second, then resets. I also noticed that the in line fuse to my amplifier had blown.

Earlier that morning there was a fierce lightning storm and I believe that it must have been struck.

I am sure that I need to check the relays under the dash. Since the fuses are ok and the alternator is brand new. The Chilton manual lists two relays I want to start with along with a circuit breaker. One is the ignition relay and one is listed as the accessories relay. However, upon trying to order the accessories relay the parts dealer said he didn't have a number for an accessories relay.

Is there anywhere else I should look for problems and what relay should I order?

Thansks in advance

Boy you must have a really bad paint job on your car if you cant see the huge burn make in it from the lightning bolt...sorry couldnt resist. You would know if lightning hit your car rest assure there would be plenty of evidence of it. If it did it would have fried your ecm and just about any other control unit in the car. Its sounds like your altenator might be your problem with not keeping the battery charged. check the ALT fuse see if its blown. if so something has shorted in the car or in the alt iteself and burnt it out. You will need to locate the short if thats the case.

Alright, I'm retarded.

I somehow looked over the fusible link for the alternator. It is smoked.....

problem is I haven't been able to find one. Checked all over the net, guess I'll have to call my least favorite Nissan dealer for help.

Thanks for the assistance; the lightning bolt joke was hard to resist I'm sure. Don't really have any other explanation thus far though. I've had a couple of friends cars zapped over the past 10 or 15 years, one directly and one close enough to shut the car down, but no burn marks.
