Lighting help

I am installing a kenwood unit in my 94 q . I know how to hook up everything with the exception of the on off switch for illumination and the illumination rheostat. the on off switch turns the tail lights and gauge lights on. The rheostat just the gauge lights. My kenwood has one light hook up for the on off switch not quite sure what order to hook these up in. I know it can work just not sure how it can.
