Hi everyone,

I noticed that there is a light squeak when starting the car from being cold (either overnight or after just sitting for a few hours). It only lasts about three seconds. I did notice this about a week after I changed my alternator (about three weeks ago) when the weather here went into the 50's overnight but I didn't think much of it then.

Also, I did have my timing done yesterday and I don't know if they had to disconnect the alternator belt or if it was one of the belts that was being replaced with the timing kit that I bought from Infiniti of Scottsdale. My kit included three drive belts (I don't know if the alternator belt is one of the drive belts). I don't know if I just have to adjust (tighten or loosen) my alternator belt or could this be something else.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Geoff.

Sorry, but I should have replied about a week ago. After my timing was done, I noticed that the squeaking got worse when it was cold outside. So instead of taking the car back to the repair shop (because I didn't have the time), I jacked the car up myself and adjusted the alternator tesionor and that fixed the problem.

To make the judgement of the squeaking easier (since the squeaking was bad when the car was cold) I adjusted the alternator tensionor early in the morning when I was sure that the car was cold. And when the car didn't squeak, problem fixed.

To fix my squeaking, I adjusted the belt by turning the tesionor bolt clockwise for about two complete turns and that fixed the problem.

Hope you fix yours,

Geoffrey.
