Light Smoke From Under Center console

(1990 240sx hatch) i noticed a couple of weeks ago a very faint smoke coming out from under the center console(under shifter) or around there, i really couldnt pin point the origin, so faint i just thought it was dust since it was sitting in a garage for about a week for some repairs, but then i noticed it about 2-3 more times since then, i know my clutch is wearing out because its making like a grinding noise. could that be the source of the problem? i would notice the smoke while on the freeway at around 65-75mph. If this has happened to anybody or if you have some helpful info. as to what the problem could be, a response would be appreciated. :slap
