So I've had bad luck in the past buying light bulbs at my local auto parts store but I still need two new bulbs. What is the name/number of the bulb for the map light? And what is the name/# for a foglight bulb? Because the 300zx has two "map lights" and only a single dome light is why I've had problems at the auto parts store.

Fog light bulbs are H3, this should be found in any auto parts store book in the bulb section.

Map lights... ummm Found this in 3 seconds of searching:

The H3 bulb needs to be adapted to work. The standard H3 has a round female connector for the pin type connector. The 300zx has a flat blade type of connector. You can make a bridge wire with a round male on one end and the flat one on the other to get around this.

Well I thought I needed a foglight bulb but I turned them on today for the first time in a while and the one that was out works again  but thanks anyway. Seems like there is some doubt about which bulb is actually the right one though. I'll definitely be buying a new map light bulb, I think people have been having trouble with them because stores don't always differentiate between map lights and dome lights.

Just in case you ever need to change your headlight bulbs if you have the weird H3c bulbs in place, and can't find h3c at autozone:

(edited because i just realized you weren't even talking about what I was trying to say.)

For example, my Headlight bulb is H3c. Autozone did not even know this existed. So here's what I did

Figured out that H3C ≠ H3

Until...

i found a write up on how to convert the two.

TTKicked in, you mean foglight bulbs? I can edit if need be, or you can.

Nah, i legit have h3c bulbs as headlight bulbs and i have absolutely no clue why.

*Just found out...Non HID z32's in japan use H3c's*

It's weird though. The more I find out about my car, the more JDM parts i discover.

1. The Zeus line 18x8 and 18x9 wheels that I traded
2. H3c headlights
3. Jasma 'super megaphone' exhaust (presumably apexi)
4. blue greddy oil filter
5. Non tokico blue shocks (I have to find the maker of them, can't find any other us shock manufacturer that has the blue shocks that i have, the blue is very light metallic)
6. Razo shift knob (although carmate/razo is now located in usa)

There's much I still don't know about my z.

I don't, its a LHD z. (unless he did a lhd & vin swap for some odd reason)

More plausible answer, I think the previous owner either had a lot of japanese connects, or just had nowhere else to buy parts except for japan...

Do your headlights have nipples? If not, then the PO traded the USDM ones for the JDM ones
