OK, so I was just sittin here thinkin about the oil drain line for ka-t's because i read many thread about having to run a quart or two low because the oil cant drain out of the turbo properly.

Now this is the idea i had, not sure if its been done so i whipped a quick paint drawing up to show you guys and comment on.

Basically the drain line from the turbo going to the oilpan, can be split in the middle and a catchcan can be put inline. This would allow oil to collect and drain from there at its own pace, even if the catch can fills part way this will generate some pressure so the oil can get in the oilpan easier if it has some restriction.

Put a copyright thingie on there i dont really kno much about the laws but if my idea is new i dont want credit to be jacked where its due haha. but yeah, this is for advancement of ka-t's for all i want.

ok so its 11 30 pm and this was just a spur of the moment thing, just for self defense if i wake up and see that i made some retarded post :P

lets see your input though!

the problem is placement, oil wont backup, unless youre racing it in a series of turns, that would slosh the oil that way. your idea would still have the oil backup in the oil buffer.

That would work ONLY if you had a vent on top of the "buffer"...otherwise, if the oil level was above the drain hole, it would be sealed off enough that the oil pressure coming into the turbo could blow seals...

The oil has to drain by GRAVITY...and little bit of pressure will back it up and cause the turbo to smoke.

So add a vent to the top of the "buffer" so that pressure cannot build up, and you'll be set. This will cause an oil smell in the car at all times, but will work fine.

Is a good idea.Oil after the turbo has no pressure, even is more like oil foam. You can use the "collector" as a oil cooler (more oil)The main problem with KAT set up is the actual oil drain bung on the oil pan location. Check WD's invention (and disaster) for the oil pump return idea.I am for a separate oiling circuit for the turbo with oil cooler/filter combination. Now, with WD ideas and this, I am quite shure that you can place the oil return line anywhere, even on the dipstick

as further assurance that oil would not backup in the "buffer", a second seperate outlet could be positioned slightly above the first one (say 1"), that would allow additional drainage should the thing fill up.

maybe this could substitute for the open filter.

or if anyone could find the parts, then a float valve operated switch (similar to your toilet float valve) could turn on/off a pump to move the oil wherever. this idea is in the bell book "maximim boost" so i take no credit for it.

I think the main problem is a practical more than a theoretical one...if you've ever seen a KA24DE-T, there ain't much room between the turbo drain and the bung for something like that, especially if the manifold mounts the turbo on the bottom...and seeing as you need to rely on gravity for all of this, it'd need to be mounted high enough above the bung in the oil pan...and the oil return line is not just a straight down drop, it goes more at a 45 degree angle, making placement even more awkward.

Good idea though

I like the greddy dran... It mounts high with a weld on tube that go's up towards the turbo it also has a flange one of the oil pan bolts goes into to reducfe stress on the weld. Then a 5/8 hose between... Never had an issue.

Deff not enough room for a large can under it.

hmm.. just remembered that i made this thread lol

ok interesting point, i suppose if there isnt enough room then ur right it probably will not work as well as i would have thought.

how does the sr or rb series go about dealing with this though?

i need to order that maximum boost book and read it this summer lol, probably will teach me a lot

ok
