I bought a 2011 Versa SL Hatchback last week. I will be performing my own oil changes. I've yet to explore the underbelly - if I had, maybe I might not be asking his question.

Is there is good/safe lift point for a floorjack at the front end? Or, am I relegated to lifting from the side with a scissor-type jack?

One more question: I've always been one to disable the ignition system, to enable cranking the engine for 10-15 seconds before starting the engine. I never did like that second or two sound coming from the engine before oil pressure built up. If this can be easily done, would someone please describe the location and appearance of the disconnect point?

Thanks ~ james

Have you checked the manual for front end jack points? Your manual should have safe jack points listed. Especially in the changing a flat tire section.

Yes, I checked the Owner's Manual. It ONLY describes using the scissor jack {in the trunk} for tire changes. I've also searched the Factory Service Manuals (on CD). I was unable to locate any references to lifting a Versa with a floorjack ~ james

You can also buy a pairs of car ramps to lift your car and perform all your oil changes and maintenance. I am guilt of using the trans as jack point for the floor jack. Once the car is lifted, I place some jack stands on the factory jack points. It is not Nissan approved but it works. Although, this was also the reason why I bought the car ramps. :wavey:

I use a hydraulic jack under the "tyre changing points" not a problem and an axle stand if needed, ramps are the easiest and I have used my friends in the past.

Silver Eagle, I will explore using a floor jack at the front 'jacking points.' My only concern is the jacking points are designed for a scissor jack with a deep groove in the jack platform. This 'groove' fits the blade type jack point. My floor jack has the traditional 'cradle.' I'll need to see if it appears compatible with the 'blade' jacking point ~ james

You do need to watch with hydraulic jacks that the depth of the cradle does not causes the outer edges of the cradle to dig into the body. you may need a packer but I am sure you will be able to rig somthing up if needed. The two jacks I use have a min. cradle lip and have removable tops so you can change the contact surface for a flat checkered pattern one which in truth I have never needed to use.

For oil changes on my 2009 I use ramps which work great and do not apply any stresses to the body. It also allows me to remove the splash panel under the engine for easy access to the filter. I found that I could also fill the new filter about 1/2 to 3/4 full and quickly spin it on the engine with only a small loss of oil that was easy to clean up. With the car up on ramps it is easy to place a large metal pan under the engine to catch any oil from dripping on the driveway.
