ok...I'm no gearhead.....but I've done some work and jacked up a few cars in my life....

Where in the heck to you lift the front end at???

I've seen soime diagrams that refer to the section exactly center of the front wheels.....is that correct?? (man I just don't want to hurt anything under there) I just don't know if it's solid...I'll be doing my first oil change, and this is the first time I have to lift my baby...

and just where can I place jack stands under there to get it off the floor jack?

Thanks, you guys Rock!SO

i use a small jack to lift up from the side, to get the body itself up to get to the actual jack points, one is under your pumpkin, and the fron is in the middle where it all comes together, watch out so you dont crush and plastic, check out 350z tech search and they have a diagram you can print out, outlines nissan jackpoints.

good luck, be careful and always use jack stands.

thanks for the verification on the liftpoints...it's the same diagram I saw before...

I'm assuming from the diagram that jackstands are placed just inside of the painted area under the edge of the car (near the channel that runs under the side of the car...)

seems kinda flimsy there.....but that's why I'm asking to BE SURE!!!!

thanks again!SO

...just get some that you "drive" up on . I have a pair of maintenance ramps that I used to put my test pipes on, (Yes I finally got them on...thanks all who put their 2 cents in.) and there is plenty of room to work under there. Oh by the way...i'm NOT skinny, 285lbs. and I wrenched just fine under there.

I did consider ramps originally....

however, the ones I've found so far don't even reach to the tires before knocking on the front spoiler....can't drive up unless I scrape the front end...and that's just NOT gonna happen....

thanks tho' for the suggestion....tonight is the night, got my 1200 miles on it yesterday....so time to dive in and get it off the ground....

(When the jackstands protrude thru the floor boards 'cause I l supported it wrong....... I'll send pics....lol)

Thanks for the help!SO

shouldn't be flimsy by any means look under there to make sure it looks solid, which it should be, never jack on flimsy haha

ok...oil change done!!!!!

Had a small issue....couldn't get the floor jack down low enough to get under the front section I needed to lift....

(insert your favorite swear words here)

I only needed about a 1/4" to get under it..after several attempts and variations on the theme (including putting the rear end up on jackstands hoping that the raised angle would give me enough clearance up front, which it didn't....)

(insert more of your favorite swear words here)

...the solution became obvious after about 45 minutes....

...drop a couple 2x6's on the floor and casually drive the front tires on...lifting the car an additional 2"....

there was enough room at that point to take down the shield and do the oil change with out any further lifting...

...oh well, live and learn!

Thank You to everyone for your patience....SO

Save you some time on the next one...I said the same thing as far as grinding the front bumper. The ramps I went with after some investagating, were the 10,000 lbs. "Rino ramps" from Blitz , they fit just fine, and there is plenty of room. GET SOME!! Late...

Get a racing jack from Northern Tool or wherever they are sold in your area. ( Sounds expensive huh? They're not) I am borrowing a friend's jack right now and it's a lifesaver, saves time and frustration!

Does anyone have real pictures of the underside of the car? I'm due for the first oil change on my Z. After 6 years with my S13, I knew the entire car like the back of my hand. I also didnt care if I jacked up one corner of the car and bent the lip on the bottom of the fender. I have a regular "small" craftsman hydraulic jack, and a craftsman SUV jack that raises cars to a very comfortable level. After I installed the Eibach ProKit springs years ago on the 240 the suv jack wouldnt clear the sway bar. I got used to double jacking the car, by using the small jack under the radiator suport to raise the car an inch or two in order to get the suv jack under the front crossmember.

The Z looks like it has similar, or less. ground clearance, and I dont want to just lift it from anywhere before lifting it from the crossmember. I have the pdf and print copies of the FSM, but of course the "recommended lifting points" diagram doesnt help...

Yes, I know that I have to jack the car from the center of the front crossmember. I dont have a low profile jack, nor do I have a level driveway, which makes it difficult to see under the car. I am asking where else I can jack the car up by a few inches without damaging anything so that I can see what I am doing.

And PLEASE dont call the differential a pumpkin. Vegitables dont belong on cars
