I did some timing work, to replace the chain guide on my KA24E ::here:: Got my car back and less than 24 hours later I hear a clicking sound, which the mechanics said they heard a little bit of slight clicking when they first got it running again. Made a video ::here:: Looking for a solution I found Greg's post ::here::

Most SOHC owners complain of lifter tick.. or actually, the lash adjusters not working properly CAUSING a tick, but few know that it CAN be repaired as a DIY project.
My question is, do you think, by that video, that it is my problem right now? and how much are the parts? I'm thinking of just replacing all of them if they aren't too costly. It didn't click at drift practice till I broke the chain guide. It was running thicker oil too which would most likely quiet any tapping that may have already been there. Now using lighter stuff 10w30 which in that 24 hours cycled through the engine and probably brought more of this tap.

How easy is it to remove the rockers and rocker hinge/shaft? I don't think I have to remove thee camshaft do I? Thanks for the help guys/gals

Not sure about the Escort, but the KA is hydraulic, no adjustments, the lash adjusters fill/empty with oil where needed. I am mainly looking for if anyone has done this or has purchased new parts. So I can see if that it is in fact my problem or any other additional information that may be helpful.

I did see somewhere online where a guy turned the rockers from hydraulic to manually adjustable ones like other engines. I am not wanting to do that, but it is possible.

when i replaced my chain and guides recently, i primed my oil pump, (disconecting the fuel pump and cranking for about 20 seconds a few times, not too long to overheat the starter) reconnected the fuel pump, started up, it knocked like that for a few minutes, it went away till it was very faint, and i revved it up a few times and the noise stopped. ive done this on the 3 rebuilds on my ka and its been good each time.

tried that, but a coupmle of them definitely seem seized or not holding oil. like i said, i had sh1tty oil in it before and probably cause them to doo this.

looking uner the cover, i don't think i have to touch the cam so thats good.

I had the same problem but it was just one rocker.Take the cover off and move the rockers around and if they move and make a knocking sound it that your spring inside the adjuster is not working good.So what i did was change the oil to what it demands that's 10W 30 and after running it for a bit it went away.Their is a right up on the tech page on Ka24e rocker arm just check it out and let me know?

I posted the link of the write up on how to bleed/rebuild the lash adjusters. zerothread?id=215864

I'm using all new oil since I had the oil pan out when I did the timing work. There was a slightly noticeable click before I did the work. The thinner oil is not thick enough to mask it like the oil, dirty was.

I'm gonna have to wait till payday but I'll try that. Hopefully that will cure it and I won't have to rebuild those PITAs

The procedure to bleed the lifters is run the engine at 3000 RPM for 10 minutes, or something like that. It's in the service manual.

Honestly, SOHC. I wouldn't worry about it. My turbo SOHC clicks like a b****!

I do worry, not so much that the sound, but it's obviously not opening/closing fully right? So its not operating to it's full potential. I know its a SOHC and all but I don't want my car to sound like a hooker gagging on balls as I roll through town.

sometime the the rocker arms give and they tick a lot and a miss come out of mine im fixen to either make mine adjustable by myself or get hybridka set of adjustable rocker arms and they run about 300 plus u have to turn in ur old ones. I think it would be well worth it cause if the hydraulic rocker arms get dirty or anything happens u got to get a new one or take them apart . So i think its worth it plus i have plans one day to turbo the ka so i want everything to function right.

my ka ticks a little but not that bad. The ka's have hydraulic self-adjusting lifters but there is still a specified valve clearance that you should check.

I know I was at fault for not changing the oil sooner
