Car: What'cha think?

Post

Lately(last couple of weeks) i've been hearing this tapping from my engine. I did a search on it and read some threads saying that theres a clog in lifter/rocker arms, 1.)some people were saying just take off your valve cover and clean off your lifters, 2.)run some auto transmission fluid in there for about a day to corrode the gunk out then change your oil the following day, or 3.)just flat out buy new lifter/rocker arms. Does anyone out there thats knows about this problem have any particular suggestions, and if it is #3 where could i buy new ones and for how much?

Thanks for your help.

try injectors/valve cleaner. Hope this will remove carbon deposit on your valve, if any.Recommend: Valvoline (silver bottle), Chevy Techron (black bottle)

For you cam/arm: if you car is in good condition, and all gasket is still well and working, you should switch directly to Full Synthetic oil. Change your motor oil to: (thanks to PalmerWMD for his reseach)

Mobil 1 : 0W-40 ( hard to find. Try autozone )Valvoline Synpower: 5W-40 ( hard to find )

if you never use synthetic oil on your car, is recommend you use blend/mix semi-synthetic oil

Valvoline Durablend : 10W-40 ( maybe in Walmart)

Switch oil in your own risk. A lot of people reported their car start leaking oil after they switch synthetic. The detergent in these oil work so good that it wash away the dirt which suppose to heap to seal your gasket.

Remember to change your oil filter too.Lotsa of ppl says Mobil 1 filter is one of the best, Borch and Wix is a good choice too. NEVER USE FRAM. I use Wix on my car.

I have a oil leak 1 months ago. When I know it, my car is making loud noice, cam is ticking, and valve is knocking. Since less than a quart of oil left in motor. I cycle my motor with dyno oil, with new cheap filter. ( NO FRAM either) Run 10 minutes, drain it. I surprise in ten minutes, it turn gold color dyno oil into black thick oil. Change a filter again, and top with Valvoline Durablend 10w-40. run it for 5 minutes, engine run quiter, but valve still knock. My friend told me the noise is because the lifter was lack of oil because of the leak. After I drove it on street for 15 minutes, all noise gone. I got lucky.

After 1000 miles, I am switching to Mobil 0w-40

Hope this help.

Cheers

I just noticed a ticking sound today too. Keep us posted if the cleaner helped at all.

You sure it isn't the Timing Chain guide? I have a constant clicking my engine and I part it next to another KA motor who had told me he removed the guide at the top and the noise went away. I haven't heard any recalls on this part, but I have heard of taking it out on more than one occasion.
