Um.. I have a or alot of lifters givin me trouble. To start I had a lifter tick so I took the plenum off and tried to see what I'm dealing with. I take the camshaft off and I can take my fingers and push down on the lifters as they move a pretty good ways. The valve itself doesn't. I take the lifter out the check it out and I can squeeze it together in my hands. Maybe it does that when oil isn't in it to pressurize it? or maybe it's done? In any case I had another car so I took those lifters and they seem to be good as they didn't squeeze together when I put them in but now I took it apart again cuz it's still tickin and I can once again push every lifter down on the intake cam. The intake cam is the only one I've check so far cuz it seems that's where the noise is. Car runs good.. any idea's? Thx.

Add 1/2 quart of Castrol 20/50 synthetic blend motor oil and switch to all 20/50 synthetic blend at your next oil change.

Also, check your oil pressure and consider pulling the oil pan to clean it out and to inspect/clean the pick-up screen.

they aren't supposed to compress, there si a checkball inside thats supposed to prevent that, if you can compres them wither there si air in the lifter or the checkball is dirty or sticking and not closing the hole as it should

Castrol 20W50 Synthetic Blend might cure this. Among other things, it's noticeably more slippery.

Several years ago I parked my J30 for a couple of months due to a leaky water pump and waiting to do the timing belt/tensioner/front oil seals/accessory belts change. I had to move the car a couple of times and each time I started it a lifter began clacking louder and louder. Before long I was more concerned about the noisy lifter than everything else. After completing the other work, adding half a quart of the Castrol quieted the lifter and soon after that I completely switched. Have never had a noisy lifter again.

Well the do collapse but I found a site that shows more aout the lifters and I did have them apart. With that I followed the instructions and put them in again.. as they was solid but now I took it apart again and they aren't. Almost everyone of them lost their push. And all in one head. So I was wondering maybe oil isn't get there but from the way they went together oil or no oil the oil behind the checkball shouldn't excape so it's shouldn't collapse. Can a machine shop find for sure that everyone oil hole is flowing good?

Oil pressure good. Round 60 at start up but as engine warms it lessens and rises with engine speed.

Um also on something different i guess... on the side of the block where the oil tree mounts is some checkballs that seem to act like the ones in the lifter. No idea why they are there or their purpose but on the other car I had it seem like they was blocked off and the checkballs were in the oil tree itself. When I had it apart the check ball came out of the block so i push it back in and slightly bend the edge to make it stay. I know that it ain't sealing anything if that's it's purpose and there is 2 balls. But only 1 is troubled.
