How long can you drive on 19 inch tires (for a G35 coupe)? My service guy at infiniti says the max life is 20K!!!! I dont want to believe that...any thoughts?

Also, my tire specs are..

Front: 225 / 40R19 89YBack: 245 / 40R19 94Y

If I get new tires, do ALL the numbers have to match up? I'm trying to find some cheap tires, so please let me know if anybody has found good deals for these exact tires.

THANKSSS!!!

20k sounds about right...maybe even a bit high. I replaced my OEM rubber @ 17k...my rears looked like drag slicks

However, the mileage estimate depends on many factors. My Toyo's look like they will last a bit longer than OEM...time will tell. I'm at 25k now, with plenty of tread!

I have the same setup as you. My fron ttires still look like they will approach 25K. My rear tires look like they will barely make it to 21K. They are not yet totally bald. However, I am beginning to see a difference in the way it handles on curves-- a little movement-- a little unsettling. I am planning to get new tires next month.

I have heard about the Toyos. Service Manager in dealership where I get my car serviced, recommended it greatly. And then, my next set up will be a 245/35/19 in front and a 275/35/19 at the rear. I think I am done with 225 and 245 set ups.

There are a couple of different sizes you can go with.

If you want your ABS and VDC to work correctly, you need to make sure the wheels are all spinning together though. So deviating too far from the stock diameter can cause issues.

Here are a couple of options. If you have any mom & pop (usually mexican. I'm one!) tire shops that do used tires, they typically have sets for a quarter of the new price. Just be weary of patched or unevenly treaded tires.

If you can't find one, I can get you a used set of rears for $100 + shipping.

Mine is an '05 and I have replaced the back tires twice due to nails. The second time I replaced all four tires and the two front were original tires. All four were replaced at 29,700 miles. So that is how many miles I was able to get out of the front tires.

Many forget to budget the $1,800-$2,200 per year a lux o sport will cost to maintain: tires, brakes, fluid mainteances, etc. Plus the accured wear and tear on components that will fail just after warranty expires.

Then they try to save money and degrade the performance they paid extra for in the beginning.

Hey Joe, Which type of Toyo's did you go with...that website has some of the best prices I have seen!! I was also thinking about adding some fat to my back tires. Thinking about 275/35/18's right now just running OEMs

Thx

Your rear tires, using Toyo, are already up to 25K and still seem good? Are these Toyo tires summer tires or all-season tires? I checked out the site and the tires are decently priced. When I was at NTB, they estimated my tires would run for $2500!!!

Other than Toyo, do any of you all know of other good tire brands that can last? I'm not made of money...

Depends mostly on how you drive and whether it's all city or mostly open highway. For racers and even guys who like to use their power, tires can last 15-20K... for those of us that drive like an old man in a hat, tires will exceed 40K easily. Keep in mind that with tires, brakes can be easily eaten away on some of the older G's, this too is largely a function of your driving habits and whether you do much city or highway driving.

Look at Tire Rack for good tire prices and reviews. Finally, someone mentioned costs associated with owning the G and suggested a price tag of about $1800 per year. My experience has been between $600-1000 and I put approximately 30K miles on my car per year. So for those of not made of money, driving for enjoyment and not to feed our ADHD symptoms has been the solution to living long and propsering.

Good luck!

I have the factory 19 inch wheels. A way to get quality tires and save some money... I ordered Yokohama Advan Sports from Tirerack. ~$1,153 shipped. I took them to NTB and had them mounted and balanced ~$106. So for ~$1,259 I was out the door with good quality new tires installed. If you have TPMS make sure you pay the extra few bucks per tire so if they break them they are responsible for replacing them.

My car had 19k miles on it when I replaced the original tires that howled like a pack of wolves. The rears were pretty bald and the fronts had some tread but were so noisy at certain speeds they were unbearable.

I originally ordered Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s (+~$100) but they were back ordered on the rears. I also went to NTB to get a quote buying the PS2s through them installed and it was ~$1,800!

Hope that helps.

You guys are comical.

Maybe I'm just blessed, but I would never pay over $200/tire. Nor would I pay over $15/tire to get them mounted and balanced.

I got used Michellins up front with over 70% tread for the fronts for $100 (thank God). And I got Ventus Sports K104s on the rear with about the same if not more tread for $111 in the rear.

Total of $211 for 4 very good used tires mounted, balanced, including tax, and disposal.

The Big Guy up stairs must love me a whole lot.

I completely agree and what I find most comical is the amount of money some people put into the car, most of it unnecessary and impractical. I often wonder if it's seen as an investment (like a home, property or the stock market) as opposed to a slowly deteriorating value. It would seem that satisfying the ego can get expensive for most of us.

What does it really matter, everyone makes love to their G!

Tires are not comical. This is your connection to the road...good tires can save your butt!! NEVER let your tires' tread get too low. Now I'm not saying everyone should buy Goodyear Eagles F1's or Michelin PS2's (these are two of the best tires you can buy...and you'll pay for it!). I'm saying that don't treat tires like an air freshener and get the cheapest "deal" you can find. I read up on Toyo's and they had many customers who highly recommended the tires.

As far as dumping money into a depreciating investment...my answer is that it NOT an investment in the first place. If we all wanted to be sensible we would have bought the most fuel efficient econo-box in the market, giving no regard to style, power, handling or anything else the G35 is known for.

I agree. I have to chuckle at some of the posts about how much money is being wasted on G's but then again what do I know? I'm just one of the old farhts here. After researching tires & doing my due diligence I decided to go with the dealer price. OEM Bridgestone Turanza 235-45-18. $1280 installed including a $20 oil change charge to begin the oil consumption test. They are giving me back 1/2 the cost of one tire since they now have a March promotion of buy 3 tires & get the 4th for $1.00BTW I flunked the oil consumption test. I used 12mm of oil as measured on the dipstick. I needed to use 18mm to qualify for a full long block replacement engine. Oh well

You are correct sir

Our G's are not an investment but depreciating buckets of metal. Sorry Jack0! Iknow you like to sleep with your G with your arms wrapped around her but she is still worth less today than she was yesterday.

Cars are investments...just investments in a different way. When a company buys new machinery, that's investment, because that new machinery will produce something and make money for it. Our cars, well they produce time? Or something...if we didn't have our cars, would we be as productive? But just because something depreciates doesn't mean its not an investment.

I'm not backing wasting money on cars, just saying look at it from a different angle. If cars weren't an economical investment, none of us would have them. If we didn't have them, a lot of us would still be at home on a horse-drawn plow. I exaggerate a little obviously.

Anyway, I hope mine last beyond 20,000 miles. But if not, that's ok I guess. What are you gonna do right?

I'm not saying tires should be treated like air fresheners, I'm saying, stop paying over $250/tire. There are a decent handful of brand new tires for the G that can be had for under a $1000. Why pay $1200, $1500, $1800 on rubber that provides modest handling improvements at the cost of short lifespans?

Lowering the G will improve handling better than using an ultra sticky, super short-lived tires.

My 19" potenzas were worn almost completely out at 18k

Replaced them with the same tires but I'll probably switch to something a bit more affordable when I buy my Nismo wheels

I have just over 27k on my Potenzas. The backs need to be replaced and the fronts make so much noise at 30 miles an hour, I'll replace them, too. The Potenzas make too much noise for me to go with them again. I use my car for work and drive like a granny after getting busted some time ago for 124 mph. So I want long lasting quiet tires. Costco has the front Michelin PS2s for $352.99 a piece installed but it looks like they are out of stock on the rears. My car goes in to the dealer for an oil change and new windshield next week so I'll check on their buy 3 get one free tire deal. BTW, it's almost a grand for a new windshield. Ouch! Only $100 out of my pocket with comprehensive insurance.

I don't get some people.

They buy a 300hp sports car and then complain about Gas Mileage.

Then they lower their car, get wider rims and then they complain that tires wear prematurely... so they try to save money and get cheap tires.
