All automatic transmissions fail, which is why when buying an out of warranty used car you reserve [ready cash] $4,000 [5speed at] + the normal $3,000 [any high mileage car has issues] to not be stressed.

2002 was the first year for 5AT and sales were not brisk [G or M or Q], so historical data is weak.

Normally transmission fail after 100k and some last 200k* if maintained properly with frequent ATF cleans and 30k replacements.

* Jatco used 100,000 cycles as the design point obviously all interstate has many fewer shifts the city bumper to bumper thus variations in miles of life.

I always recommend an expert examine ATF, pan, and filter to gauge whether a used tranny has 6 months, or a few years left. Anyway always budget for one and you will never be surprised.

My 1990 Q is on #3 with 314k now.

Thanks for the quick and informative response. I run my G fairly hard however, I go to extremes on maintenance. I have owned enough vehicles to know that when funky little "quirks" begin to take place it will only be a matter of time before things go south. I purchased my G with 16K and no have 50K it is in very good condition but, any thing can happen. Thanks again.

Important to do transmission flushes every 25k to 30k miles to get the maximum longevity.

In your G, remember to use Nissan Fluid J (not the older formulations) ... anything else will void your warranty.
