My Nissan shop says my Versa needs new pads and rotors, but i'm only at 56k. Is that normal wear, bearing in mind that we drive 80% city?Or could there be something else wrong?

Thanks?

56000 kms? if so and you say you are 80% city driving, lots of stop and go, using brakes. could very well be.your front grab first, until you really slam the brake pedal.

you can try harder pads, but then your rotors will wear earlier, so you have to find a combo that suits your driving style.

Too many variables but mostly depends on how you drive (How hard you brake). I would say thats okay life but OEM is far better than cheap retail store aftermarket.

You can check to make sure the calipers aren't sticking.

I am going to need rear shoes at about 30,000 miles, so 56,000 kms sounds pretty good.

I got about 20k out of the OEM pads, I got the Duralast Gold from Autozone, but I had to get the non-abs pads even though my car has ABS, but they cost me about $50 and they have 22k and are still brand new, and sometimes I have to brake hard on i-540 around 5-6pm everytime everyone just comes to a dead stop for no reason it seems, with the OEM's I almost got into 2 accidents there, but I have no problems stopping with the DL Golds.

96k on first set of pads, 146k on first set of shoes, and 118k on second set of pads. Thats in miles.

I would think that the brake pads would probably need it, but the rotors should last longer then that. Although, the rotors might not be that expensive so replacing them might be a better call then a shoddy resurface job.
